Invasive Cardiac Tech II - EP Cath Lab
Major Responsibilities:Operates all monitoring, recording and related equipment used during procedures. Collects and prepares pertinent data for use by physician/staff.Supports physician and staff during procedures.Monitors patient electrocardiogram for cardiac dysrhythmias.Operates the defibrillator and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required. Provides assistance in emergency situations.Assists in pre and post procedure activities related to equipment and patient care. Positions patient and selects exposure factors for all radiographic procedures performed in the department.Identifies cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy for documentation purposes.Performs initial troubleshooting on equipment and arranges maintenance as necessary. Performs calibration, cleaning and quality assurance measures on equipment. Prepares, delivers, and picks up reusable items for re-sterilization.Prepares and operates imaging, angiographic, interventional and storage systems.Scrubs to assist physician with diagnostic, interventional and surgical procedures with knowledge of equipment and equipment options. Must be able to work with medical staff and fellows.Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Develops, trains and administers competencies to staff. Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other cardiology department processes and procedures.Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist registration (RCIS) issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) certification issued by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), or Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) certification issued by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:Associate's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field.
Experience Required:Typically requires 2 years of experience in a cardiac catheterization lab performing cardiac monitoring, panning and scrubbing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Completion of an approved basic ECG interpretation course within three months of hire.Advanced technical skills in monitoring, scrubbing and panning with proficiency in both Catheterization and Electrophysiology procedures (where required). Demonstrated ability to quickly change priorities in a fast-paced environment.Excellent communication skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.Must be able to:- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.Must be able to:- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.Position requires use of foot pedals on carts or machines. May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
