Inventory Control Specialist
Under general supervision from the supervisor, performs a variety of duties in receiving, issuing, handling, and accounting for inventory stock at Smith & Wesson. The inventory control specialist will increase company profitability by maintaining an accurate inventory level at the facility and by identifying and optimizing common inventory items among facilities. The inventory control specialist will assist in training employees on the process of inventory management and cycle counting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Develop and implement methods to maintain accurate inventory levels at the facility -- analyze inventory levels, production speed and product demand to determine re-order levels * Identify and optimize common inventory items among facilities * Inspect inventory items for wear or defects and order new items when needed * Maintain computer records of inventory items and their use * Develop and implement innovative methods to dispose of dead or obsolete inventory items * Work effectively and efficiently with cross-functional teams, including those from purchasing, planning and the warehouse * Manage effectively so that the cycle counts are completed in a timely and accurate manner * Conduct or supervise audits of facility inventory on a scheduled basis * Take on the responsibility for training employees on the process of inventory management and cycle counting * Contact manufacturers for authorization to return non-stock items that are obsolete * File defective goods claims with reps or manufacturers on items that are obsolete * Instruct warehouse personnel when and where to return defective or non-stock items * Maintain the returned goods area in an orderly fashion * Monitor returned goods in the warehouse that have not yet been processed * Maintain proficiency in computerized systems and other technologies as required * Follow company policies and procedures * Other duties/responsibilities as assigned NOTE: This list presents only the principal duties of the position and is not intended to be comprehensive. Education and Experience: * High school diploma/GED required (Associate's degree preferred) * Minimum 2 years in progressive position (3 years preferred) * Able to perform business math (basic algebra, compute rate, ratio, etc. Competencies and Skills: * Problem-solving and analytical ability * Superior organizational skills * Accuracy and attention to detail * Demonstrated success managing inventory, including auditing, forecasting and planning * Able to work independently with some direction * Capable of following written instructions and documented procedures * Team player who works productively with wide range of people * Strong project management and multi-tasking skills * Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills Physical Demands: * Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, squat and walk * Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds NOTE: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment: Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards. The following Personal Protective Equipment is required: * Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
