Inventory Management Specialist

Summary: The Inventory Management Specialist shall be directly accountable for all the National Institutes of Health (NIH) inventory and equipment under their control. The Contractor shall be directly responsible for the loss of any products or materials which are received and stored as designated for issue by the Contractor. The Contractor shall be directly responsible for the losses or the damages to the facilities and any equipment, whenever it can be attributed to the Contractor’s operations and services performed. The Contractor shall respond to physical inventory requests. The Contractor shall establish and provide a plan for achieving all the mandated physical inventory requirements, including those for their efforts to resolve pick exceptions and any other actions resulting in not fulfilling our customer’s orders. The work for the NIHSC Warehouse will be performed at 16071 Industrial Drive, Gaithersburg, MD, and at the NIH Supply Store, Building 10, Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Conduct inventory counting/validation of NIHSC warehouse portfolio stock at the NIHSC warehouse and/or the NIH Supply Store, building 10, i.e. daily, weekly, monthly, manually or as required. The allotted time to count will be determined by the designated COR. Required to provide staff that have the level of skills necessary to conduct causative research discrepancies. Causative research for inventory discrepancies discovered during storage, delivery, inventory or issuance of material is required to be conducted by the Contractor and given to the Government within 5 calendar days. Research all inventory discrepancies (NIHSC warehouse only) and document findings as appropriate for corrective action. When causative research results produce inconclusive findings or when proof of negligence, theft or abuse is the cause, the Contractor is required to provide restitution to the Government regardless of dollar value, and provide sufficient documentation detailing corrective action taken to the COR. Conduct all inventories as required and directed by the COR. Routine counts directed from Inventory Management Section will be performed by the Contractor as necessary. Required to adhere to all Federal Regulations, and all applicable State and local provisions, acts, regulations and laws governing requirements for hazardous material handling and hazardous waste management. Track, monitor, and manage inventory levels to ensure stock availability meets operational demands without excess. Maintain accurate inventory records in inventory management systems, ensuring data integrity and reliability. Perform regular cycle counts and physical inventory checks to reconcile discrepancies and maintain inventory accuracy. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Applications Customer Service experience. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication and negotiation skills for supplier and stakeholder interactions. Minimum Qualifications: Must have at least 7+ years of experience. Multi-faceted experience in managing inventory across commodities including healthcare, laboratory, climate-controlled, office supplies, chemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and all other inventory categories. Experience with using and navigating asset/inventory management systems to include taking corrective action to eliminate system deficiencies and recommend system change requests. Experience resolving conventional inventory management problems, questions and situations in a supply operation Experience in analyzing inventory management reports. Inventory and/or location maintenance experience. Ability to pass a background check. US citizen Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
