Description
Our client, a Local Unified School District, is seeking a Temporary Attorney to support its team with investigations related to district policies, compliance, and employment matters. This role requires an experienced legal professional with expertise in conducting investigations, reviewing and summarizing findings, and providing well-reasoned recommendations. This is a fully remote position; however, candidates must be based in California and possess an active California Bar license.
Key Responsibilities
+ Conduct thorough investigations into complaints received by the district, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legal standards.
+ Gather, review, and analyze evidence, including witness statements, documents, and other supporting materials.
+ Summarize investigative findings in clear, well-structured reports for review by district leadership.
+ Provide legal recommendations based on findings to assist in determining appropriate next steps.
+ Ensure adherence to state and federal employment and education laws in all investigative processes.
+ Collaborate with district leadership and legal counsel to address employee relations matters and dispute resolutions.
+ Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all investigative work.
Requirements
Qualifications
+ Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
+ Active California Bar License (required).
+ Experience conducting legal investigations, preferably in employment, labor relations, education, or government settings.
+ Strong knowledge of California labor, education, and employment laws.
+ Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills with the ability to summarize complex issues concisely.
+ Familiarity with Title IX, administrative hearings, and labor and employment law is a plus.
+ Experience in government agencies, school districts, or public-sector labor relations is highly desirable.
+ Ability to work independently in a remote setting while managing multiple investigations simultaneously.
+ Background in labor relations, employment law, or administrative hearings is preferred.
+ Prior experience conducting internal workplace investigations, grievances, or compliance reviews is a plus.
