General Description
This is professional level investigatory position in the Police Accountability Board responsible for conducting investigations, surveillance, and interviews regarding potential wrongdoing by RPD officers to prepare case files and satisfy the requirements of the City Charter. General supervision is provided by the Director of Investigations. Related work is performed as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
Typical Work Activities
+ Conducts investigations, surveillance, and interviews regarding potential wrongdoing by RPD officers to prepare case files and satisfy the requirements of the City Charter;
+ Inspects police department personnel, policies, procedures, practices, and training for compliance with local law, state law, federal law, professional standards, applicable rules and regulations, and community values;
+ Coordinates the collection, analysis, and storage of evidence obtained during interviews and site visits;
+ Reviews and evaluates existing public safety systems for accomplishing organizational objectives, and recommends new systems or system modifications;
+ Refers matters for civil, criminal, and administrative action to appropriate administrative and prosecutorial officials and/or agencies; and
+ Prepares, presents, and publishes investigative reports, policy analyses, and case materials as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D. PLUS:
Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, public safety, legal affairs, journalism, human services or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in criminal justice, legal affairs, auditing, internal investigations, or investigative reporting;
OR
Associate’s degree in criminal justice, public safety, legal affairs, journalism, human services or a related field AND two (2) years of experience in criminal justice, legal affairs, auditing, internal investigations, or investigative reporting;
OR
Four (4) years of experience in criminal justice, legal affairs, auditing, internal investigations, or investigative reporting.
