J.P. Morgan’s Shareholder Engagement and M&A Capital Markets (SEMAC) team is expanding its mandate within the bank to include broader shareholder engagement and M&A Capital Markets advisory, while continuing to handle traditional shareholder activism and corporate defense.  This role represents a unique opportunity to be involved in building the foundation of an entrepreneurial enterprise with significant senior sponsorship under J.P. Morgan’s world-class banner.  The Shareholder Engagement and M&A Capital Markets team is a critical component of the firm's globally integrated investment banking model.

Job Summary

As a Vice President in the Shareholder Engagement and M&A Capital Markets team, you will leverage your experience as a seasoned Investment Banking professional to develop strong relationships with corporates and other advisers, including law firms, public relations, and proxy solicitors. You’ll work on blending capital knowledge with markets mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, spin-offs, split-offs, and on helping corporates to deal with shareholder activism. You will play a central role in advising clients with respect to engaging with their shareholders and monitoring their trading activity, including shareholder activism and corporate defense. 

Job Responsibilities

Acting as the primary day-to-day client point of contact on live projects Reviewing and coordinating the analytic work of junior bankers to move marketing/execution process forward Refining marketing/execution materials for maximum client impact Identifying potential risks to a deal successfully completing and helping to explain and mitigate the issues Working across industries in partnership with other members of the investment bank Liaising with external parties on transactions (eg. lawyers, public relations firms, investors) Scripting client dialogue and prepping management/board members for interactions Understanding market dynamics that may move client’s stock prices, and interpreting the price moves once made

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Prior work experience in an investment banking front office role. Experience in training junior bankers Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity Very strong quantitative and analytical skills (including Excel modelling and valuation work) Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines, and have the aptitude to synthesize large amounts of information and to develop innovative solutions Adaptability, able to manage projects independently and be ready to assume a high level of responsibility as a member of a team Ability to comfortably interact with clients in a professional and mature manner Excellent understanding of financial, legal and reputational risks facing large integrated investment banks in today's environment
