Job Description:
The IOT Automation Engineer will lead the transformation of the Decatur factory into a connected facility by integrating assets into the IOT network. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing IOT solutions to enhance operational efficiency, improve data visibility, and enable real-time decision-making. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of IOT technologies, drive innovation, and support the factory's digital transformation goals.
Job Duties:
Design and Implementation: Develop and implement IOT solutions to connect factory assets to the IOT network, ensuring seamless integration and functionalityProject Management: Manage the technical aspects of the project, including defining and clarifying project scope, preparing project documentation, and facilitating meetings with project teams and stakeholdersCollaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, and operations, to ensure successful deployment and integration of IOT technologiesData Management: Oversee the collection, storage, and analysis of data from connected assets to improve operational efficiency and support real-time decision-makingInnovation and Development: Drive innovation by identifying opportunities for new IOT applications and improvements to existing systemsTechnical Support: Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for IOT systems and connected assetsCompliance and Standards: Ensure that all IOT solutions comply with industry standards and regulations, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and best practicesTraining and Documentation: Develop training materials and provide training to staff on the use and maintenance of IOT systems. Maintain comprehensive documentation of all IOT projects and systemsWhat Skills you will have:
Knowledge of Industrial Protocols: The engineer should be well-versed in industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP. These protocols are essential for interfacing with PLCs and controllersExperience with Kepware: Familiarity with Kepware software, including KEPServerEX, is crucial. The engineer should understand how to configure and manage Kepware servers to collect and transmit data from various industrial devicesPLC Programming Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram is necessary. This includes the ability to write and troubleshoot PLC code to ensure accurate data extractionData Integration and Management: The engineer should have experience in integrating data from PLCs and controllers into a centralized system, such as an IoT platform or cloud database. This involves setting up data flows, managing data storage, and ensuring data integrityNetworking and IT Skills: A solid understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, and network security, is important. The engineer should be able to configure network settings on both the PLCs and the Kepware server to ensure seamless communicationTroubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for diagnosing and resolving issues related to data extraction and communication between devicesDocumentation and Reporting: The ability to document technical processes, create user manuals, and generate reports on system performance and data trends is important for maintaining system reliability and providing insights to stakeholdersTop Candidates Will Have:
Bachelor’s degree related to Engineering, Computer Science, or similar a similar field of studyProgressive Project Management ExperienceExperience with Factory AutomationExperience in Manufacturing EnvironmentKnowledge of different machine/asset typesAdditional Information:

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
