Job Title: IP and Transport Manager

 

 

 

Primary objective of the job:

 

 

The IP and Transport Manager is responsible for the operation, administration and maintenance of the transport and IP core networks while ensuring all availability and quality targets are achieved. This role must ensure all operations activities, projects and implementations are completed with minimal impact to customers. The role requires a strong focus on network metrics and KPIs and reporting while managing operations to ensure all goals are achieved.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Network Operations and Maintenance:

Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the transport and routing network layers, ensuring high availability and optimal performance. Manage and monitor network infrastructure, including optical transport systems, IP/MPLS networks, routers, switches, and related equipment. Ensure the timely resolution of network incidents and issues, coordinating with cross-functional teams to minimize service disruptions. Implement and maintain network monitoring tools and systems to proactively identify and address potential network issues.

 

Network Development and Projects:

Collaborate with centralized strategy team on the planning, design, and execution of network development projects, including expansions, upgrades, and technology transitions. Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate and implement new technologies and solutions that enhance network capacity, performance, and efficiency. Develop project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time, on budget and within scope.

 

Financial Management:

Manage the OPEX budget for IP and Transport network operations, ensuring cost-effective management of resources and services. Oversee the CAPEX budget for networking-related development projects, ensuring prudent investment in infrastructure and technology. Conduct cost-benefit analyses and business case development for proposed projects and initiatives, providing recommendations to senior management.

 

Network Availability and Quality Assurance:

Establish and manage KPIs related to network availability, quality, and performance, ensuring targets are met or exceeded. Implement best practices and methodologies for network optimization, including traffic engineering, redundancy, and disaster recovery planning. Regularly review and analyze network performance data, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

 

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead and mentor a team of network engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development. Set clear goals and objectives for team members and conduct regular performance evaluations with constructive feedback. Promote a collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation within the team.

 

Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration:

Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders such as the regulator and public utilities, regarding network operations and development activities. Collaborate with other departments, including IT, customer service, service delivery, ICT and product development, to ensure alignment of network capabilities with business objectives. Provide regular updates to senior management on network performance, project progress, and strategic initiatives.

 

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

Bachelor’s degree AND related certification OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 4-6 years’ experience performing similar role / duties. Experience in and with the mobile telecommunications sector would be considered a valuable asset. An acceptable combination of academic qualifications and work experience may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements. Membership with a professional engineering institution or PMP certification will be an asset.
