IRB Analyst

The University of Virginia's Office of the Vice President for Research seeks applicants for their Institutional Review Board for Health Sciences Research (IRB-HSR) for a full-time position as an IRB Analyst. IRB Analysts execute the operational activities of a compliance program such as Immigration, Risk Management, Office of Equal Opportunity, Institutional Review Board, Athletics, and Office of Sponsored Programs. They are knowledgeable about the complex legal and regulatory issues potentially impacting University operations, and follow established protocol when dealing with compliance procedures, such as compliance reporting and document review. Analysts exercise some degree of independence and autonomy but will seek help before handling more complex functions.

This is a 1-year term limited position renewable based upon performance and funding. This position is eligible to be fully remote.

Responsibilities:

Provide advice/education to investigators regarding federal and state regulations, ethical principles on the protection of human subjects and assistance with developing and processing submissions to the IRB-HSR.

Perform administrative review of complex biomedical research protocols.

Serve as an IRB member and conduct reviews and approvals of expedited submissions.

Ensure sensitive and confidential issues are concisely and properly communicated, negotiated, resolved and documented.

Point out deficiencies in policies, procedures, as well as guide and assist in drafting revisions.

Obtain and maintain CIP certification when qualified.

Conduct accurate data entry and maintenance of all protocol review activities.

Prepare board meeting materials and coordinate the dissemination of submissions to board members.

Communicate professionally and efficiently with all levels of the organization.

Attend team meetings and other seminars/workshops as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree. 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: At least two years of relevant experience in biomedical research is required. Up to 4 years of relevant experience is preferred. Experience with a biomedical IRB is preferred.

Licensure: CIP certification is preferred.


Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs. This position has the opportunity for remote work.

The position will remain open until filled.  The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
