**Job Summary**
The Institutional Review Board ( IRB ) is responsible for the review of all human subject research conducted at the University of Utah. Under minimal supervision, the IRB Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and/or controlling all activities associated with ensuring the safety and welfare of human participants in research involving human participants, their private information, and/or their biospecimens. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity & Compliance. The person in this position must be collaborative and well-versed in the federal regulatory landscape.
**Responsibilities**
1. Directs the development and implementation of research and science objectives that are consistent with the University of Utah’s goals and objectives.
2. Oversees creation and implementation of standard operating procedures ( SOP ); Ensures adherence to SOPs and FDA regulations.
3. Responsible for evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures and determining implementation of changes as needed.
4. Provides strategic direction by setting short and long-term goals, estimating budgetary requirements for staff, space and equipment planning, and implementing special projects and policies.
5. Oversees all aspects of human resource management including recruitment and retention of assigned staff.
6. Forecasts staffing, capital, and operating budget needs in evaluating and reporting on market sensitivity, financial analysis, space utilization review, staff performance evaluation, etc.
7. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through.
8. Oversees the analysis and determination of appropriate staff mix to support customer needs.
9. Ensures competency of management/supervisory staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and on-going staff performance evaluation.
10. Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.
11. Participates in university-wide committees to establish customer/patient service and administrative plans and policies.
12. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
**Minimum Qualifications**
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); 8-10 years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.
