Position Information Position Information Position Availability: Position Title: IRDS, Student Assistant Specialist Requisition Number: 0406073537 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Provost/Provost's Office Responsibilities: The Institutional Effectiveness Assessment of Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS) seeks applicants for the position of Student Assistant Specialist. This position reports to the Assistant Provost of Institutional Effectiveness Assessment. The qualified candidate will support the IRDS team in adopting appropriate analytical methods and generating meaningful analyses that could best guide The New School data users’ decisions.
This position will assist in data processing and statistical analyses, summarizing findings in written and PowerPoint formats, and co-presenting these findings to internal audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES Support the Assistant Provost of Institutional Effectiveness Assessment in analyzing student data (multi-year survey research data, enrollment, student success metrics including retention rate, student engagement, graduation rate, etc.) Assist in translating findings into written reports and presentations (PowerPoint) Support the planning and design of surveys, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative survey data Co-present with the Assistant Provost of Institutional Effectiveness Assessment in sharing findings with the IRDS team and other departments Adhere to the Student Data Privacy and Confidentiality Policy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS At least six months experience in a position working with data in higher education, in an office such as institutional research, information technology, finance, registrar’s office; Proven experience with more than one of: Statistical Packages (R, SPSS, SAS), Canva, project management, advanced statistics, marketing analysis, and/or data analytics. Demonstrate experience of management of large and complex projects
HOURLY RATE: $20/hour
Proposed Start Date: 10/10/2024 End Date: 06/30/2025 Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, social sciences, or a STEM program. Bachelor’s degree in another field with courses in quantitative field is also acceptable. Experience in a position working with data (collection, presentation, and interpretation); Familiarity with statistical software/tools (R, SPSS, SAS), Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PPT), and Google Suite Training in information aesthetics to support IRDS in interpreting data in informative and visual captivating ways. Confidence in writing and public presentations Willingness to accept revisions, iterate, and update projects as needed Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively; Excellent verbal, written, and data visualization communication skills Preferred Qualifications: WORK MODE Hybrid – Employees hired for this position primarily work in a hybrid format, with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus, when necessary, to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.
