JOB DESCRIPTION:

Ironworker Helper assists Ironworkers or performs duties in absence of Ironworker to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures frameworks, working as a member of the crew.

Offloads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator. Determine number, sizes, shapes and location of bolts. Set up and break down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members. Set up framework of building by positioning steel girders or other structural elements and then bolting them into place or prepares them for permanent bolding and/or welding. Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members. Ensure that all reinforcing material is in its proper position so that it receives its intended structural load. Fastens steel members to cable of hoist. Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to life and place steel member. Guide member or ride on member in order to guide it into position. Pull or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.

Physical Requirements:

Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy. Must be able to pass physical examination and as required by the company. Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.). Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
