Irrigation Specialist The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Irrigation Specialist. Position Details Location Hattiesburg 118 College Drive Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 39406-0001 United States Division Administration Physical Plant Position Type Staff Employment Status Full Time Grant Funded No Salary Range 14.00 - 14.00 Pay Grade N03 Posting Close Date Open Until Filled Job Summary Performs skilled repairs and maintenance of all installed irrigation systems and controls, including computer-operated systems. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Properly sets irrigation timers, repairs broken pipes, replaces broken heads, and repairs damaged irrigation wire. + Installs new irrigation layouts and/or modifies existing systems. Troubleshoots and maintains automatic systems. + Keeps inventory of all irrigation parts, fittings, supplies, and tools. + Ability to work well with smart phones and tablets for use as irrigation control. + Communicates pertinent information with the Senior Grounds Lead and with the Superintendent. + Maintains and repairs all systems and components relevant to irrigation on campus. + Occasionally supervises small labor crews for special projects and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent. + Assists in athletic grounds duties as assigned. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one-year related experience and/or training in the repair, installation, and maintenance of sprinkler systems and groundskeeping. Valid Driver's License Knowledge, Skills & Abilities + Knowledge of irrigation systems and components. + Skill in repairing broken pipes, replacing broken heads, and repairing damaged irrigation wire. + Ability to work from sketches and irrigation plans. + Ability to use a smartphone or tablet to control irrigation zones. + Ability to troubleshoot, repair, or replace irrigation components to include Pipes, wire, and sprinklers.
