Irrigation Technician (Entry or Senior Level)
**_Position may be filled at the Entry or Senior level, depending on qualifications and department needs._** The City of Littleton is looking for a skilled Irrigation Technician. The Irrigation Technician installs and maintains irrigation systems, perform snow removal, and assist with general grounds maintenance. The ideal candidate will have experience maintaining irrigation systems and performing winterization and spring system activations. In addition to your application, please submit a cover letter that describes why you are the best candidate for this position with the City of Littleton. **Entry Level** **hiring pay range $25.44 - $28.12 per hour** **Senior Level** **hiring pay range $28.14 - $31.10 per hour** **Work Schedule:** This full-time position will work a flex schedule with every other Friday off. This means working Monday – Thursday 6:00 am to 3:30 pm, and every other Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed for snow removal, or for call backs to take care of emergency water calls. Overtime opportunities are available throughout the year for special events and projects. **Application Deadline** : Applications will be accepted until finalists are identified or the position is filled, but **preference will be given to complete applications received by February 24, 2025** . Those who do not apply by this date may or may not be considered. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Maintains turf irrigation systems by installing, adjusting, repairing or replacing pipe, controllers, valve boxes, valves and sprinkler heads; and performing winterization and spring system activations. + Programs and maintains controller boxes for irrigation systems. + Programs numerous types of irrigation controllers, making adjustments depending on environmental conditions and seasonal changes. + Performs snow and ice removal from walkways, driveways and parking lots as directed using hand and powered snow removal equipment. + Installs and repairs holiday lighting displays. + Performs general maintenance of city grounds including trash clean up and debris removal. + Maintains assigned equipment, including vehicles and equipment by performing operator maintenance checks. + Supervises and instructs seasonal employees as directed. + Performs 811 locates by physically locating utilities as needed. + Performs other assignments and projects as required. + May serve as an Emergency Worker. **Additional Duties for Senior Irrigation Technician:** + Requires experience performing Essential Duties and Responsibilities as noted above plus demonstrated ability to: + Certify backflow assemblies + Identify problems with irrigation systems; troubleshoot and take corrective action as necessary to maximize system performance + Supervise and instruct subordinate employees as directed + Read plan sets and construction documents. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:** + High school diploma or equivalent; and + One (1) year of irrigation or related experience; or + An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. + Must have a valid driver’s license. + Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical. **Minimum Qualifications for Sr. Irrigation Technician:** + High school diploma or equivalent; and + Three (3) years of irrigation or related experience; or + An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. + Current certified backflow prevention assembly tester, or ability to obtain within nine (9) months of hire. + Must have a valid driver’s license. + Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Knowledge or experience working with various pump systems + Central Control experience **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:** + Knowledge of turf irrigation, equipment operation, snow removal techniques (sidewalks/parking lots), landscaping, time management, organization, and project planning, and equipment maintenance. + Ability to perform roadway traffic control with cones and signs. + Advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities that include the software and hardware of controller clocks and programming. + Advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities that include backflow prevention assembly and installation. **WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:** + Work is performed in extreme weather conditions, in confined workspaces, around electrical and mechanical hazards, and flammable materials. + Essential duties include ability to stand and walk for long periods of time; lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance. + Frequent exposure to noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, chemicals, dust, and gases. **MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:** Irrigation equipment, trencher, snowplow, bucket truck, compressor, use of all hand tools, sander truck, Pull-behind trencher, riding trencher, acetylene torch, irrigation materials, generator, hand/power tools, and assigned city vehicle with two-way radio. **Equal Employment Opportunity** The City of Littleton is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and intends to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and job applicants regardless of age, ancestry, color, disability, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other non-job related characteristic, and to hire and retain the best-qualified individuals without regard to any of these factors.
