The Clinical Informatics Application Engineer I provides leadership and guidance to define system and process requirements that will optimize system performance and technology utilization by clinical practitioners. Acts as a principal resource for designing information systems and technologies that support efficient and intuitive clinical workflows. Promotes current, future and present system functionality of clinical information systems through design, configuration, and testing procedures.

ResponsibilitiesThe Clinical Informatics Application Engineer I will work collaboratively with clinicians and business units to develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity and to promote system enhancements and integration of clinical information systems and workflows. This role requires well-developed communication, analytical, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills – leveraging both logic and creativity. SYSTEM DESIGN
Understand and translate the business functionality into Clinical Information System configuration and workflow validations Suggest design alternatives and make appropriate design decisions Design, configure and validate new or modified functionality Understand appropriate application of Population Health tools and strategiesDATA, ANALYTICS AND REPORTING
Assists with analysis of external data definitions documentation and mapping process Knowledge of user business practices, concepts and terminology sufficient to support data mapping identification Responsible for analyzing and mapping medical, laboratory and any other health-related data in compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures Working knowledge of dashboard development including concept design and build Working knowledge of database management, report validation methods and data aggregation strategiesCLINICAL DECISION SUPPORT
Participate in designing solutions to achieve the best clinical outcomes promoting optimal care that reduces errors and achieves organizational goals and objectives Participate in supporting the development and enhancement of a comprehensive systems to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality and appropriateness of clinical care Serve as a resource to advise members of the medical staff, other clinicians, department directors, and administrative staff regarding effective approaches to measure and improve clinical quality and enhance the value of care
CONSULTATION
Maintain client relationships by ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues and communicate recommendations for system modifications and enhancements to the appropriate teams Understand appropriate use of technology to optimize care delivery process and assist care providers to create and record the evidence of their practice within the Electronic Health record Work with leadership to create detailed application designs that conform to application guidelines QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
A clinical background in any discipline is highly desired. Nursing or Pediatric experience preferred. An operational background in Health Information Technology or Revenue Cycle Management desired for the non-clinical applicants.
Experience interacting with clinical or business areas to gather and understand workflow and technical requirements.
Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience required. Clinical Licensure and/or other certifications preferred
Epic certification required in at least one Core Application, additional certifications desired.
Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
Strong skills in use of PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires ability to talk, listen and type. Position requires the ability to interact effectively with customers and information systems personnel across the organization.
