IT Business Analyst 3

This position is for 18-month fixed term with possibility of conversion to a continuing position. This position will work on multi-year projects currently in flight for the optimization and modernization of faculty information systems. During these projects, this position will report directly to the Director of Technology Solutions Alignment in Enterprise Technology. The incumbent will serve a critical role in ensuring the effective operation and success of Faculty Affairs initiatives. This IT Business Analyst role is primarily responsible for the business systems needs of Stanford University’s Faculty Affairs division in the Provost’s Office.

The Faculty Affairs division of the Provost's Office is responsible for implementation of University policy regarding faculty searches, appointments and promotions; salary setting; leaves; endowed chair appointments; appeals; and other matters of an academic nature. The office works with School Deans' offices, the Advisory Board, and the Provost to ensure compliance with Board of Trustees and Academic Council policies and to facilitate effective communication on issues related to the Professoriate, Academic Staff-Teaching, and Other Teaching Staff.

The incumbent will collaborate with administrative and technical staff to optimize existing solutions and identify new solutions accordingly. The incumbent may also work in partnership with peer institutions for best practices ideation.

 

CORE DUTIES*: Lead discovery and enhancement projects for appointment or applicant tracking system from client business perspective. Facilitate engagement of school/department administrators and Faculty Affairs staff in discovery and system implementation efforts. Serve as Faculty Affairs’ primary liaison to faculty administrators, UIT, and other business units to ensure proper execution of business processes and utilization of business system solutions. Manage and analyze support requests for Faculty Affairs in the lifecycle management of faculty and instructional staff; determine whether support request is business process or system-related; collaborate with appropriate unit to fulfill support request. Work with faculty administrators, Faculty Affairs staff, UIT, vendor, and other appropriate units to shepherd system issues to resolution. Analyze reporting needs and collaborate with other University units (e.g. UIT, IRDS, OFDDE) to develop robust reports; provide analytical and operational reports to stakeholders as needed; audit data integrity. Assess alignment of business processes to policy updates around faculty affairs; identify necessary adjustments to business process and collaborate with technical team to determine corresponding system enhancements consistent with organizational objectives. Track enhancement requests and evaluate feasibility. Evaluate shadow systems and recommend process improvements with emphasis on alignment between necessary business functions and system features; determine feasibility of consolidating disparate systems to reduce administrative overhead and technical debt. Develop and maintain business process documentation and system user guides; consolidate and refine existing job aids. Provide guidance and training for users of Faculty Affairs systems.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree. 8 years of business analyst experience with knowledge of multiple complex business applications. Or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience in higher education with solid understanding of program administration. Demonstrated experience with both process and data modeling. Demonstrated experience with fit/gap analysis. Demonstrated understanding of project management principles. Demonstrated understanding of the software development life cycle. Demonstrated understanding of database applications, SQL, data interfaces, web applications and ERP systems. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work effectively with minimum direction. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong listening and conflict resolution skills. Business partnering mindset, with an energy to strive for continuous process improvement and best practice sharing in a collaborative environment. Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and build trust for effective working relationships across all Stanford schools.

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS BS in Information Technology or Business-related major preferred. Ivy+ or private institution experience desirable; experience with faculty affairs a plus. Ability to establish effective, ongoing relationships with end users, staff, and management. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work under pressure in high stress situations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation. Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone. Rarely writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $150,219 per annum.
