IT Enterprise Systems Intern

Trinity Industries IT Department is seeking an IT Enterprise Systems Intern for the Summer of 2025. The internship experience will focus on both operational tasks and work on a strategic project, providing the intern with a well-rounded, hands-on learning experience in application management and systems support.

What you'll do:

Operational Responsibilities (Day-to-Day Tasks): The intern will engage in daily operational activities that provide insight into the workflow and problem-solving techniques of our organization. They will be involved in:

Assisting with application support and management by responding to service requests and incidents. Learning to utilize our ticketing system to log, track, and prioritize tasks, understanding how tickets move from identification to resolution. Working closely with the support team to gain experience in troubleshooting common system issues, documenting solutions, and maintaining application performance.

Project-Based Learning: To supplement the daily responsibilities, the intern will also work on a specific project that will culminate in a presentation to executives at the end of the summer. This project could be:

New Application Implementation: The intern will collaborate with the IT team on a real-world project, such as implementing a new application that supports a critical business function. They will participate in requirements gathering, configuration, testing, and deployment phases, gaining insight into the end-to-end process of application implementation.
Optimization of Support Processes: Alternatively, the intern could work on a process improvement project, analyzing current ticketing and application support workflows. They would identify bottlenecks or areas for efficiency, propose enhancements, and document best practices.

Key Learning Outcomes:

Technical Skills: By interacting with live applications and support systems, the intern will gain technical skills in application support, troubleshooting, and ticket management.
Project Management: Working on a structured project will help the intern develop project planning, documentation, and presentation skills.
Professional Development: Presenting their project findings to executives will enhance the intern’s communication and analytical skills, preparing them for future roles in technology and operations.
