Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a motivated and innovative College Intern to join our Human-Centered Design (HCD) Team within the Information Technology department. The HCD Team focuses on designing and optimizing employee-facing applications to improve productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction. As an intern, you will engage in various stages of the design and development lifecycle, from user research to prototype testing, specifically aimed at enhancing the internal tools and applications used by our employees.

Responsibilities

User Research: Assist in conducting user interviews, surveys, and observational studies with employees to gather insights about their needs, behaviors, and pain points. Design Thinking Workshops: Participate in and help facilitate design thinking workshops and brainstorming sessions focused on employee-facing applications. Prototyping: Develop low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes of internal tools and applications to test practical solutions. Usability Testing: Assist in planning, conducting, and analyzing results from usability testing sessions with employees. Documentation: Help create and maintain documentation for design processes, user stories, and project outcomes. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams, including software development, project management, and IT support, to ensure a collaborative approach to solution development. Feedback Integration: Support the integration of user feedback into iterative design improvements of employee-facing applications. Presentations: Prepare and deliver presentations on research findings and design recommendations relevant to internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Human-Centered Design, User Experience (UX) Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Information Technology, or a related field. Research Skills: Basic understanding of user research methods and tools. Design Skills: Familiarity with design software such as Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, or similar. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Time Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Curiosity: A genuine interest in human behavior and the desire to create seamless user experiences for internal applications.

Preferred Skills

Previous internship or project experience in human-centered design or UX/UI design. Knowledge of design thinking principles and methodologies. Experience with usability testing and data analysis tools. Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and web design principles. Familiarity with enterprise software and employee-focused technology solutions.

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).
