Our Eastern Territorial Headquarters offers a rewarding opportunity for an IT Network Administrator in Syracuse, New York committed to our mission. This full-time exempt position is tasked with managing, maintaining, and optimizing the US Eastern Territory’s network systems in alignment with The Salvation Army’s goals and ITIL best practices. The Network Administrator is expected to handle a variety of networking hardware and software, ensure robust security protocols and backup procedures, and explore new technologies that fit the organization’s goals.

 

Based in Syracuse, NY this position requires approximately 35 hours of work per week and may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

 

Responsibilities

1. Network Configuration and Security: Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, routers, SDWAN, and other networking devices. Establish VPN tunnels and manage access control lists.
2. Backup and Logs: Oversee the maintenance of firewall and server backup configurations and review related logs.
3. User Support: Provide Help Desk support for connectivity issues, including location-to-location and remote access.
4. Wireless Management: Configure and manage internal Access Points and serve as a subject matter expert for systems like Meraki and Ubiquity.
5. ISP Liaison: Assist with the installation or changes to ISP providers and configure access devices.
6. VPN Management: Manage the VPN solution for remote access, including user database management.
7. Infrastructure Maintenance: Ensure the organization and maintenance of wiring in server rooms and closets, monitor UPS & PDUs.
8. System Monitoring: Oversee Syslog Server and Event Log Tracker, configure monitoring applications for IT devices.
9. Voice System Backup: Support the Voice Administrator with system upgrades and configurations.
10.New Technologies: Research and implement new technologies that enhance network infrastructure.
11.Hardware Management: Manage cable setups and use tools like tone generators for connectivity tests.
12.Network Architecture: Understand and manage hub-and-spoke network configurations.
13.Troubleshooting and Analysis: Employ strong analytical skills for rapid issue diagnosis.
14.OSI Model: Utilize an understanding of the OSI model in network management.
15.Monitoring Tools: Use tools such as WhatsUp Gold, SolarWinds, or ManageEngine for network monitoring.
16.Scripting and Coding: Utilize API or PowerShell for network commands.
17.Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and/or 7-10 years of related experience.
• CCNA Certification required.
• A+ Certification and Network+ Certification or equivalent experience.
• Exceptional analytical abilities and effective problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in network monitoring tools and understanding of the OSI model.
• Excellent communication skills and meticulous organizational practices.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a complex network environment.

 

• Advanced Networking Skills: Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as firewalls, routers, SDWAN, and Access Points.
• VPN Management: Experience in managing VPN solutions, including access controls and user database management.
• Wireless Network Management: Expertise in managing wireless networks using systems like Meraki and Ubiquity.
• Infrastructure Management: Skilled in the organization and maintenance of server rooms and networking closets, including wiring and power distribution units (PDUs).
• Network Monitoring Tools: Proficient in using tools such as SolarWinds, WhatsUp Gold, and ManageEngine to monitor network health and performance.
• Scripting & Automation: Knowledge of PowerShell or API scripting for automating network-related tasks.
• Voice Systems Support: Familiarity with voice system upgrades, configuration, and backup procedures.
• Analytical Troubleshooting: Strong diagnostic skills with the ability to address and resolve complex network issues quickly and efficiently.
• Mobile Device Management (MDM) Expertise: Experience with configuring and managing MDM platforms to ensure the secure deployment, monitoring, and management of mobile devices within the organization. Knowledge of industry-leading MDM solutions such as Microsoft Intune, AirWatch, or MobileIron is preferred. Capable of implementing policies for device security, application management, and remote troubleshooting.

 

Preferred Certifications:
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA): Required for comprehensive knowledge of networking fundamentals.
• CompTIA A+ Certification: Demonstrates competency in handling general IT infrastructure tasks.
• CompTIA Network+ Certification: Verifies skills in managing and troubleshooting network issues.
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): Preferred for managing and configuring Microsoft systems and networks.
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP): Preferred for ensuring secure network configurations and adhering to best practices in cybersecurity.
• Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA): Preferred for wireless network management and troubleshooting.

 

Licenses and Registrations:
• Valid Driver's License: Required for traveling to remote sites within the region.
