IT Operations, Manager – Distribution Platform Support

Become an  IT Operations, Manager – Distribution Platform Support at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll provide leadership of day-to-day operations for maintaining the availability and reliability of control systems in support of the SCE’s Distribution Operations, Engineering and other T&D businesses. This includes leading deployment of the Grid Management System, Field Area Network LTE 5G solution, and Grid Modernization efforts with a solid focus on safety, security, and operational excellence with project teams, clients, and internal customers.

Key Focus of Role

IT Operations: Handling the support & maintenance of all system outages related to the control system platform. Continuous Improvement: Lead the operations team to performing analysis and providing recommendations to address system issues as well as implementing tools and utilities to enhance and automate the monitoring control system functions. Incident Tracking: Leading the team and being accountable for incident triage and will perform escalation to the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) or working with Network Operations Center (NOC) to coordinate incidents that require support from other Grid Services organizations. Grid Controls: Guiding the team to ensure that the control systems used by T&D groups are functional, accurate and following standards as well as adhering to policies and in compliance with NERC and FERC. Team Leadership: Supports the development of team members to achieve their professional growth goals while guiding them on a path of Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement. Collaboration: Works closely with our business clients to understand their needs and improve their user experience, in the systems we support, including providing resource management for new T&D and IT projects.

Responsibilities Implements IT policies and procedures to ensure efficient and secure operations Monitors and manages the performance, availability, and reliability of IT systems, networks, and infrastructure Maintains a comprehensive inventory of hardware, software, and licenses, and oversees their procurement and deployment Implements and enforces IT security measures to protect sensitive data and systems from internal and external threats Partners with leaders of other teams to identify and resolve system and network issues, minimizing downtime and disruptions Plans and supervises system upgrades, patches, and migrations in coordination with vendors and stakeholders Provides leadership and direction to team of Engineers and/or Technical Staff providing operational support, maintenance, and enhancements to IT systems Collaborates with vendors to evaluate, select, and implement IT solutions and services Coordinates with senior management to develop IT strategies aligned with the business goals and objectives Supervises data recovery services and business continuity planning in cooperation with key users and local operations staff A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity. Minimum Qualifications Five or more years combined experience performing or leading an information technology function.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of experience leading or supervising a project team or workgroup. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical major.  Experience in the operation and maintenance of SCADA system(s). Experience and strong understanding of communication protocols/ DNP3. Experience with Distribution Automation devices and Distribution Grid technologies. Experience in software/ application development and best practices. Experience in effective resource and project planning, managing project metrics, decision making, results delivery, team building, and remaining informed about emerging relevant technology and innovation. Strong personal mastery, including ethics, influence, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

 

Additional Information

This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs. The primary work location for this position is Santa Ana, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at other SCE work locations. Position will require up to 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory. This position leads a team of operational support staff that are responsible 24/7 for critical Grid applications. As a result this position may be called out to work after hours and on weekends as needed This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties. This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week. Relocation does not apply to this position.
