**Job Summary**
The IT Specialist, along with the Computer Operations Manager and Scientific Software Specialist, is responsible for the computer systems in the Mathematics Department and the Office of the Dean of Science. The IT Specialist is involved in the administration and maintenance of many servers, desktop systems, network devices and printers for the Department of Mathematics and the Office of the Dean of Science.
**Responsibilities**
**Technical Responsibilities**
Support day to day technical operations, including but is not limited to:
+ Systems troubleshooting, diagnosis and problem resolution
+ Purchasing, provisioning and configuring computers
+ Software installation and updating
+ Systems monitoring
+ Mathematics software support
+ Printer support and troubleshooting
+ Systems backups
+ Server room equipment: servers, racks, power & cooling
Technologies
+ MacOS, Linux, Intune, Jamf, Munki, Ubuntu, networking, VLANs, NFS , firewalls, MATLAB , Mathematica, Maple, TeX, Python, Perl, Tanium, Defender, DUO , Git, Active Directory, LDAP , virtualization
**Support**
Assist faculty, staff and students with:
+ Technical questions and issues
+ Equipment purchase recommendations
+ Reconfigure and repurpose equipment as user and departmental needs change
+ Track departmental assets from purchase through decommissioning
**Planning & Preparation**
+ Implement efficient, repeatable methods for provisioning and maintaining systems.
+ Plan for future changes in departmental computing, education, research and staff needs.
+ Follow security, high performance computing and other IT related trends and publications, with an eye toward how those
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.

**Minimum Qualifications**
Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within areas of specialty.
