IT Specialist (SYSADMIN)
Summary This position is located at Departmental Offices, Assistant Secretary for Management/CFO. As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), you will be documenting user needs and requirements; developing and recommending new or improved ways of meeting needs via the implementation of applications and systems; evaluating and implementing systems design solutions; planning and scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and applications software. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) you will: Plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the design, testing, installation, integration, operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced systems. Conduct needs analyses, analyze and document systems requirements, and provide advance estimations of various project aspects such as projected timelines and costs in order to support project planning and to meet user needs. Implement new systems or system upgrades, as well as associated security tools and procedures. Evaluate and assess application functionalities and system performance as well as compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Key Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Specialized Experience for GS-13 - You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Experience leading a team that operates in at least one SAP SuccessFactors Human Capital Management Suite modules: Learning Management, Performance Management, Competency Management, Succession Planning, Workforce Planning, and Compensation Management; AND - Experience leading IT projects. AND In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Specialized Experience for GS-12 - You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Experience working in at least one SAP SuccessFactors Human Capital Management Suite modules: Learning Management, Performance Management, Competency Management, Succession Planning, Workforce Planning, and Compensation Management; AND - Experience performing IT application testing. Specialized Experience for GS-11 - You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Experience working in at least one SAP SuccessFactors Human Capital Management Suite modules: Learning Management, Performance Management, Competency Management, Succession Planning, Workforce Planning, and Compensation Management; OR - Experience performing IT application testing. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
