**GENERAL DUTIES**
I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.
Work tasks include as:
-Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment
-Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems
-Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism.
As the profession continues to reinvent itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the reporting, writing, interactive, technological, and entrepreneurial skills they need to find stories and tell them effectively. The school currently offers a Master of Arts in Journalism, a unique bilingual M.A. in Journalism for students fluent in English and Spanish, and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism.
The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY seeks an IT Support Assistant hourly. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated prior IT experience preferable providing technical and end-user support in the areas of Mac OS, Platform connectivity password reset, network printers, Microsoft Office 365, off-the-shelf applications.
Under direct supervision, the IT Support Assistant (Hourly) will perform the following duties:
- Assist with assessing and addressing urgent IT issues, such as network outages, access requests, password resets, or hardware failures, immediately.
- Assist with high-priority requests, including system crashes or security breaches, while effectively balancing other ongoing tasks.
- Respond promptly to help desk tickets, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor in all interactions.
- Guide users through troubleshooting steps for routine technical issues, ensuring clear understanding and effective support.
- Follow up with users after issue resolution to confirm satisfaction and offer additional assistance if needed.
- Clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical users, ensuring they understand the necessary steps to resolve their issues.
- Helps diagnose and repair issues with MacBooks, iMacs, and other Apple devices, including addressing hardware failures like faulty hard drives or screens.
- Provide training and support to users on best practices for Mac hardware and assist with troubleshooting common issues.
This position is for 20 hours per week and requires the candidate to work in person. Please note that this is an evening position, with a set schedule of Monday to Friday 3:00pm - 8:00pm. and occasional Saturdays 10:00am – 4:00pm.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
2. Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
A preferred candidate should have:
- A minimum of one (1) year of desktop support experience.
- Ability to prioritize issues on a case-by-case basis and short notice.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communications skills and an aptitude for problem solving.
- Knowledge and experience with Mac Hardware platforms including laptops and technologies.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
**COMPENSATION**
New Hire $23.74/hour
Incumbent $26.84/hour
