TITLE: Systems Administrator

PAY RATE: $80,000 - $90,000 Annually

MAJOR FUNCTION:
Installs new and rebuilds existing servers, both physical and virtual. Maintains system operability and security on servers, including configuring and monitoring backups. Updates and tests software and OS patches, researches OS-related events and errors. Makes recommendations for hardware and OS solutions for the enterprise. Administers on-premises Active Directory and Azure Active Directory. Interfaces with IT colleagues and users relative to Active Directory and operating systems functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operating System Administration (40%)
Support Windows and Linux Operating Systems. Recommend modifications, including upgrades, additions, deletions to systems or services on servers. Monitor VMWare infrastructure for problems and potential issues. Monitor Windows servers for performance, disk space, and logs. Troubleshoot and resolve problems. Monitor systems scheduled tasks, troubleshoot, and resolve any failures. Make recommendations for new systems including physical and virtual servers, storage devices, and backup power devices. Manage and maintain mapped drives file systems. Troubleshoot permissions and set up new file shares as required, keeping security in mind to ensure only those that need access are granted access. Work with other IT Teams and staff to update legacy systems. Configure and monitor backups, resolving issues that cause missed backups, adding new systems to the backup schedule, and handling restore requests as needed. Following IT security best practices, secure Windows and Linux operating systems.
Active Directory Administration (40%)
Maintain all services contained in the Active Directory infrastructure. Design and establish procedures to integrate Active Directory with identity management systems within various software applications, ensuring that said policies can be implemented in each application. Maintain access control lists, security groups, permissions, and structure of current on-premises mapped drives and / or cloud file shares. Assign permissions to other IT staff and contractors according to established departmental policy. Monitor and maintain the health of the Domain Naming System; troubleshoot and resolve DNS related issues. Monitor and maintain the Certificate Authority services; resolve any CA issues. Manage Group Policies ensuring they are applied correctly. Add or modify policies according to established departmental policy. Work with Support Team to resolve Active Directory and Office 365 issues including authentication, locked accounts, directory synchronization, etc. Maintain directory hygiene ensuring stale objects are pruned, organizational units are being used properly, and existing objects contain necessary attributes.
Automations (15%)
Create and maintain scripts, mostly built on PowerShell, that automate the user lifecycle, including HRIS integration. Independently evaluate AD and OS administrative tasks performed by Support staff and develop automated procedures to reduce steps, eliminate redundancy, and to foster standardization. Evaluate automated health checks to add, enhance, eliminate, and remediate them as needed. Ensure sync services are running; keep Active Directory in sync with other directories. Monitor all relevant automations to ensure continuous operation; troubleshoot and resolve issues. Creatively develop new ways to automate routine tasks.
Team Support (5%)
Maintain a positive esprit de corps with team, other IT colleagues, and users. Actively participate in team meetings, keeping colleagues informed about your current projects, work in progress, timelines, goals, challenges, etc. Travel will be required on occasion to complete these duties.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong analytical skills. Strong team player. Excellent organization and planning skills. Ability to understand and troubleshoot complex technical problems. Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment. Strong understanding of Microsoft Identity and Access Management products such as Azure AD, Azure AD Connect, Conditional Access, Azure AD Proxy, SAML.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Associate’s degree or higher in Information Technology or Computer Science. Relevant Microsoft certifications including MCSE, AZ-104, AZ-303, AZ-304, AZ-500. 4 years of experience with DNS, DHCP, Certificate Authority, Group Policies. 4 years of experience with Windows Server Operating Systems. 4 years of experience in Office 365 Administration and Implementation. 4 years of experience maintaining Active Directory domains in an enterprise environment. Proven experience in scripting languages, primarily Windows PowerShell and VBScript. Licensed Driver
