IT Systems Engineer Apply now » Date:Jan 16, 2025 Location: Rochester, NY, US, 14652 Company: Kodak Role Overview The IT Engineer is responsible for the support of software applications that run on legacy Material Handling computer systems. This role may also involve the implementation of 'state of the art' technology that will upgrade / replace the existing legacy applications and systems. Description: The "legacy" systems referenced above are primarily VAX/VMS (Virtual Address extension / Virtual Memory System) based computer systems which are responsible for control of Eastman Kodak's Rochester Film Sensitizing (RFS) manufacturing process. These systems identify and track dry (rolls) and wet (chemicals) materials throughout the manufacturing operation. The correct materials must arrive at their intended destination at the right time, in the right order, in the right quantity - and in most cases - in a completely dark environment. There is a SAS (Systems Application Support) technical expert on each shift who handles all system-related support calls. If the call involves the Material Handling Systems, and it's beyond their technical expertise, they will contact you. For all non-production critical calls, that contact may be in the form of an email that you can address at your convenience, or a DR (Deviation Report) assigned to you - requiring your follow-up. DRs are created by operations, maintenance and process engineering personnel. Production critical calls require immediate attention. If they involve the Material Handling Systems a direct call to your desk/cell phone will take place. A typical day may involve: • Support of the software applications that run on the RFS Material Handling Systems • Handling production critical calls to keep the process running (prevent downtime) • Support of the production process by handling any recent production issues • Working with or training SAS technical experts &/or key operations personnel who use these systems • Collaborating with process & product engineers to help resolve problems or develop process improvements • Draft and maintain detailed, up-to-date technical documentation, corrective action guidelines (CAGs) and user guides • Participate in the troubleshooting of performance or stability issues and recommend solutions to prevent recurrence • Editing software programs, subroutines and/or command procedures making changes that require a rebuild (ie. compiling & linking) of a program creating a new executable... and the installation of that new executable DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES • Support of the Automatic Storage & Retrieval System (AS/RS) VAX/VMS application... completely automated wide roll storage & retrieval system for current & upcoming production events • Support of the Dry End Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) system... A Windows-based 8 vehicle automated system transporting wide rolls from storage to the various shop floor stations and back into storage • Support of the Dry End Material Handling Control System... VAX/VMS based system that communicates with several shop floor PLCs, the AS/RS & AGV systems to provide tracking of all roll movement, identification & location... and provides roll data to and receives roll data from the Film Roll Management (FRM) system • Support of the Wet End 1st Floor Cold Container Storage System (1st Flr Strg) VAX/VMS application... controlling 5 vehicles/4 aisles storing containers of chilled wet materials and retrieving those containers into the process for production coating events • Support of the Wet End Material Handling Control System... VAX/VMS based system that communicates with over 20 shop floor PLCs, the 1st Floor Cold Container Storage System to provide tracking all containers (including material contents, weight & location)... and provides container data to and receives container data from the Emulsion Data Collection (EDC) system • Support of the Sample Assurance System... A Windows-based system involving several applications & shop floor systems to provide wide roll sampling instructions to shop floor operations • Support of the Tavern J8 System... VAX/VMS Experimental research & development coating operation. • Support of the Batch Melt (BM) & Finish Advanced Melt (FAM) applications providing wet materials (dispersions & emulsions) to the production process • Support of the Lemur & Voyager applications providing wet materials (chemicals & small quantity dispersions) to the production process Education: • AS in Computer Science (BS preferred) • BS Computer Engineering • BS Computer Science Experience: • 2 yrs IT / Computer programming • Support of a manufacturing operation preferred KEY COMPETENCIES • Computer Programming experience - VAX FORTRAN - VAX C • Understanding VAX/VMS Environment • Digital Command Language (DCL) • Wonderware InTouch experience preferred EOE Policy Statement: All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability.
