Position Title: Janitor/ Stock Room Attendant
Department: The Salvation Army, Ketchikan Family Store, Gateway Corps
Reports To: Store Manager/Corps Officer
FLSA Status: Part-time / 30 hours per week; Non-exempt
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Janitor/ Stock Room Attendant is responsible to the Ketchikan Family Store. Their primary duty is
to provide a clean and safe environment for store patrons and staff. They will help to keep the store
clean, neat, and presentable, performing basic janitorial duties and by accepting, sorting, and storing
in-kind donations for resell. The Janitor/ Stock Room Attendant will be expected to fulfill the role of a
brand ambassador for The Salvation Army. Finally, they are to aid in maintaining a safe, positive, and
professional Christian environment for customers and coworkers in support of the values of Jesus
Christ and The Salvation Army.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum 1 year work experience in any field. (Sales/Retail preferred)
2. Valid Driver’s License (Required)
3. Ability to work well independently to meet goals set by management and in a detailed,
professional, and courteous manner.
4. Ability to work/interact effectively with the public, co-workers, and volunteers from diverse
backgrounds and circumstances.
5. Ability to work on a dynamic high performing small team.
6. Knowledge of facility cleaning products, techniques, and equipment.
7. Be flexible and open to new ideas, concepts, and ways of doing things.
8. Ability to complete multiple tasks, meet deadlines, remain self-motivated, be organized, be
detail orientated, and work with minimum of supervision.
9. Must pass all background checks required by The Salvation Army with an acceptable criminal
history record.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITONS:
1. Maintain a clean and safe work area throughout store, sorting, and warehouse areas which
include driving to the dump for disposal of unsold or defective product.
2. Receive donations and fill out customer donation receipts.
3. Sort incoming donations, moving boxed donations, bailing, loading bailed rags, and general
upkeep of warehouse space, other warehouse duties not limited to this one.
4. Stock store keeping racks and shelves neat, clean, and orderly, price items, pull items that are
outdated, label and return them back to the warehouse.
5. Provide excellent customer relations by giving prompt and courteous assistance to customers,
ensuring that all merchandise has been properly priced.
6. Follow assigned daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning duties.
7. Maintain a monthly inventory of all janitorial supplies and create list of needs for purchasing.
8. Lead in all cleanups throughout store, sorting, and warehouse areas.
9. Attend store staff meetings and training courses as required and stay informed of new policies
and directives.
10. Assist with the loss prevention program, reporting all incidents of loss to the Store Manager in a
timely manner.
11. Report safety hazards: assist in the protection of property and building and help to ensure store
cleanliness inside and out.
12. Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager and/or Corps Officers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an indoor, store environment. Exposure to extreme temperatures is not a
condition of this job. Noise level is generally low.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, run, jump, and twist. Maintain the ability to grasp,
push, pull objects such as boxes or furniture, reach overhead, and carry store supplies. Maintain the
ability to operate a computer, telephone, and similar technologies. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to
learn and adhere to proper lifting techniques, always wearing a back brace when lifting heavy items.

Software-related Skills: Microsoft Excel familiarity preferred. Working knowledge of integrated
database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
Language Skills: Must be able to understand, follow and give both written and oral instructions and be
comfortable working with diverse individuals in face-to-face contact and over the telephone. The
employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation.
Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.
Performance Skills: Must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess a desire to learn
and assist those he/she interacts with.
Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Checks
required by The Salvation Army for employment.
Driving Requirement: Must be a licensed driver with acceptable driving history. Must also complete
and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.
