**GENERAL DUTIES**
I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

**CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION**
The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) supports the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 26 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications, identifies and develops new technologies that advance the University's core mission, operates and maintains the University's network, the enterprise Data Center, and the CUNY Service Desk. Additionally, CIS manages the processes of safeguarding the University’s IT assets and maintaining the security posture by operating the CUNY Security Operations Center (SOC), develops disaster recovery plans for business continuity, and supports the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that integrates student administration, financial management, and human resources operations across CUNY’s 26 colleges. Lastly, CIS provides strategic and operational IT leadership to all CUNY campuses.
Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Application Development, the Java Middleware Developer is a member of the development team that supports the CUNY's modern software development, data integration platforms and related initiatives. The incumbent’s essential role and responsibilities consist of overall programming, maintenance, support of CUNY’s applications and websites, and include collaboration with developers and software engineers to develop applications and software using Java programming language to create, monitor, and update websites.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Develops, designs, builds, tests, and deploys middleware software solutions by following coding standards and appropriate unit testing, monitors, and optimizes performance of applications and solutions; builds applications and API services, web applications and backend server processes.
+ Performs application maintenance, troubleshoots, debugs, and resolves system outages and addresses client issues related to middleware software, working in partnership with the Quality Assurance team to diagnose and resolve defects and issues, reporting system-wide issues to management as necessary.
+ Collaborates with project managers, business analysts and university departments to ensure Middleware solutions meet user needs; identifies application system alternatives to enhance performance to achieve the needs of user environment and to create a responsive User Interface.
+ Evaluates and enhances existing applications; develops new functions per business requirements and recommends solutions and application system design approaches and revisions, to streamline programming and operation of systems hosted in both WebSphere and WebLogic frameworks.
+ Oversees and ensures system improvements and changes are implemented correctly and completely and monitors all effects of modifications.
+ Provides day-to-day production support of the existing applications and databases, including remote support for Operational Readiness Testing and production deployments which occasionally require weekend and/or holiday work hours.
+ Manages, maintains, and develops technical support documentation and guidance to stakeholders related to middleware development, contributes to development of best practices and standards in supporting IT goals and objectives including metrics and projects.
+ Participates in analysis, planning, architectural design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise applications that support university wide offices and functions.
+ Stays abreast of trends and advancements in technology to remain aligned with latest standards in software development, and implements innovative technologies as deemed suitable.
NOTES:
1. Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
2. **An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.**
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
Preferred:
+ 5+ Years of professional hands-on working experience with coding in Java, JSP and Java servlets in a WebSphere environment or similar Java application server.
+ 5+ years of working experience in a Java Enterprise development environment such as Rational Application Developer on Linux and Windows platform.
+ Knowledge of SWING, Struts/Hibernate, Java EE, EJB 2, SQL, HTML, JavaScript are beneficial.
+ Strong understanding of application architecture and database design, with practical experience being advantageous.
+ Proficiency in web design utilizing HTML5 and CSS3 is essential.
+ Experience in writing SQL queries using Oracle relational database systems is required.
+ Proficient in web services technologies, including REST, AJAX, JSON, XML, and jQuery.
+ Demonstrated comprehension of the software development life cycle, particularly Agile methodologies.
+ Familiarity with mobile development frameworks such as Flutter, Xamarin, React Native, Swift, and Kotlin is advantageous.
+ Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills, fostering successful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
+ Proficient in analytical, communication, writing, and presentation skills, translating technical complexities into understandable reports, updates, and solution proposals.
