Registers patients in the Emergency Department and Registration area, enters charges and completes hospital-required paperwork. Assists in Medical-Surgical and SDS/Operating Room area as needed and training completed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides competent patient care to the above-indicated patient populations by obtaining and utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills in appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments within the ER Tech scope of practice. Registers patient that present to the ER for services and all admission to the hospital
following registration policies and procedures. This includes collecting Time of Service Payment, when possible.
Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to co-workers and to multidisciplinary caregivers. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient care outcomes Enters charges according to billing policies and procedures (EKG, CRNA charges, etc) Enters Bed Board data Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate, timely manner. Maintains active logons/passwords for computer software systems that support patient care and education Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of MercyOne-New Hampton and the Sister of Mercy. Communicates with and performs duties following MercyOne - New Hampton Mission, Vision, Values and Cultural Beliefs. Adapts positively to the ever-changing health care environment by supporting technology and process changes. Participates in developing yearly performance goals. Creates a plan for professional or personal growth. Responsible for maintaining certification/licensure requirements as directed by the position. Attends and participates in departmental/organizational meetings, inservices and educational opportunities. Performs other responsibilities as requested by Chief Nursing Officer or designee.
IV. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Serves on a house wide/unit specific process improvement committee or team. Participates on nursing and/or hospital committees Serves as a preceptor for new staff Cleaning /stocking of supplies and equipment Assist ER, OR and Med-Surg Staff as needed Performs EKG’s Cleans and wraps instruments in preparation for sterilizing. Runs autoclaves on regular and flash cycle when necessary.
V. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education:
1. High school graduate or GED required
2. Successful completion of a Nurse Aide Course Required.
– Certification preferred
3. State of Iowa nurses aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible preferred
B. Experience
1. Previous experience as nurse’s aid in a hospital setting preferred
2. Minimum of one year post high school business education or one year experience in an
office setting preferred
C. Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes
1. Experience with computer software and willingness to learn new software (Excel, Microsoft, Healthland, Powerchart, etc.)
2. Detail oriented, requires numerical, clerical, and organizational skills and the ability to perform mathematical calculations and complete patient records.
3. Ability to work flexible hours
Completes the following mandatory courses:
Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Provider-American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.
Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines
