Job Summary
 

The Media Center Coordinator is integral to the operational efficiency of the Jonathan Logan Media Center, ensuring the availability and functionality of a variety of resources and operations. This role encompasses the management of technical equipment and facilities, oversight of maintenance and upgrades, and supervision of student staff. The JLMC Coordinator ensures that all technological and physical resources are optimally functioning currently, stays current with advances in various systems and contributes to long term planning surrounding the lifespan and replacement of equipment. The Coordinator is vital in maintaining the Media Center’s educational and creative activities while providing expertise and advisory support to enhance the user experience for students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Responsibilities

Manages all Media Center equipment, including film and digital cameras, audio, lighting, grip, and presentation tools. Ensures that all equipment is up-to-date, well-maintained, and adequately meets both curricular and co-curricular needs. Establishes and enforces refresh cycles for equipment and provides on-call technical support for all types of technology used in the Logan Center and related facilities, including classrooms, computer labs, edit suites, and a black and white darkroom.Works with the Assistant Director to supervise student staff assigned to the equipment cage, ensuring effective support for the Media Center's educational activities. Responsible for assisting with training, scheduling, and managing student workers, including organizing regular staff meetings and building quarterly staff schedules to ensure consistent coverage.Provides critical technology support to students, faculty, and staff across various departments. Facilitates equipment and software demonstrations and instructs users in the proper handling and safety concerns related to media equipment. Creates, manages, and updates training materials, guides, and manuals. Develops and maintains authorization systems for all Media Center spaces and labs. Offers one-on-one technical guidance as needed.Produces large format prints, short videos, and other creative materials as needed for individual and departmental needs. Supports a variety of projects by providing technical expertise, training student staff, or assisting directly with production.Builds and maintains relationships with university departments, external partners, and community organizations. Develops collaborative projects that expand the center’s reach and impact, effectively communicating the center’s value to a broader audience.Serves as a member of the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts staff and assist with various programs and projects.Monitors and analyzes trends, identifies opportunities, and explores innovative approaches to teaching and learning problems. Works with other units across campus to aggregate services in an academic context.Identifies existing content and converts it into an e-learning environment, then creates user support materials.Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

Two or more years digital media, technology and operations experience.Background in using and maintaining a range of arts related production equipment, software, and facilities.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Possess extensive knowledge of a wide array of arts-related production equipment and tools, including but not limited to photography, cinematography, audio recording and production, lighting, and the installation and presentation of artwork.Demonstrate sound knowledge of a diverse range of arts-related software applications, from imaging and animation to audio and video editing.Proficient in installing and managing computer operating systems, with robust Mac-based skills in networking, graphics, video software, and associated hardware.Experienced in instructing technical skills in classroom or workshop settings, capable of clearly communicating complex technical concepts to a varied audience, encompassing both novices and advanced users.An above average working knowledge of camera systems (both video and still) as well as a solid proficiency in live audio recording and audio workflows.

Working Conditions

Occasional evening and weekend work.Management of digital media in a 180,000 square-foot facility.Conduct regular building rounds.Considerable office work.Occasional moving of equipment weighing 10 to 50 lbs.Occasional travel to local vendors (hardware and electronics stores, etc.).Assist with technology use in gallery installations.
