Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE), the Journeyman Electrician will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the PCR (Power Control Room) Wiring department. The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the integration of buildings and the manufacturing process associated with PCR integration. The Journeyman Electrician will provide guidance to Apprentices and Electrical Integration Technicians.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform industrial electrical services in accordance with standard practices and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC Part 1) which involves the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and utility systems. Perform services including but not limited to the installation of electrical equipment and components, cable tray, conduits, cable and wire, heat trace, grounding and bonding, terminations and testing. Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems, circuits, equipment and components to make good their repair and restoration. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards and defects for their adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes. Test electrical systems, circuits, equipment and components using a variety of tools and equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, continuity meters, voltmeters, insulation test equipment, etc. Assists Lead Persons with training and mentoring of other employees. Promotes a safety culture as well as attends all safety meetings. Ensures quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality. Ensures work areas remain clean and well organized. Other duties as assigned

Core Competencies

Knowledge of Motors, MCC’s, PLC’s, transformers and small utility distribution within Modular E-Houses. Working knowledge of industry codes and standards with the ability to refer to the applicable codes. Knowledge of materials, methods, applicable electrical codes related to electrical manufacturing. Working of knowledge of electrical design and equipment. Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and Adheres to Powell’s set of core values and beliefs during both good and bad times. Demonstrates a sense of urgency and a “can-do” attitude by collaborating with others to solve problems and drive results. Approaches work consistently and utilizes methods to complete and monitor tasks to meet deadlines. Ability to adapt to new ideas, technology, processes and product changes. Effectively diagnoses problems and influences proper action to resolve them. Able to work effectively within a team and around other departments and their activities. Ability to learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure adherence to ISO requirements. Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Qualifications

Hold a valid Journeyman Ticket or Red Seal certification. Minimum 2 years’ experience with conduit (EMT, Rigid), Termination of PLC’s and controls. HVAC experience is considered an asset. Safety certifications are an asset for the position. Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.

Working Conditions

Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities. Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required. Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding. Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment. Working around loud machinery.

Physical Requirements

Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs. Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously. Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting. Must be able to lift and handle up to 50lbs on a regular basis. Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 20 lbs. Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm. Perceiving size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.
