Jr Staff Attorney
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with VITAS Healthcare Corporation’s policies, procedures, guidelines, contractual commitments, and governmental regulations.
  • Supports the General Counsel and other Regulatory Counsel on legal issues, including matters relating to: o Regulatory compliance, certification, accreditation, survey, and licensure o State and federal fraud and abuse and other laws and regulations specific to the health care industry o Contractual relationships of all types and complexities, including those with managed care organizations, physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, durable medical equipment companies, and non-health care providers o Government and private reimbursement o Preparation of minutes of governing body and/or other corporate committee meetings. Supervises the maintenance of organizational records. o The company’s voluntary compliance program includes development, implementation, and training. o Legal issues arising out of the day to day delivery of hospice and palliative care, including patient care matters, advance directives, and informed consent and bioethical considerations. • Provides legal research and prepares correspondence, memoranda, contracts, and documents. • Performs related duties as required.   QUALIFICATIONS
  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
  Experience: • 0 to 3 years practicing law, with an interest in health care, corporate or other acceptable specialty. • Ability to work on various assignments simultaneously. • Ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing with department heads, managers, coworkers, and vendors to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions. • Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within automated systems as well as a variety of software packages such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.  
  Education:  Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalency from an accredited college or university.
  Certification & Licensure: Active Florida or Ohio Bar membership in good standing is required.
