The Retail Development Program (RDP) is a fast-paced three-month program designed to prepare recent college graduates for a full-time role at Belk. We offer opportunities in several of our business functions including Merchandising, Planning, Accounting, Finance and more! The program focuses on key components to support your development: Education, Experience, Exposure, Innovation and Results.
The Retail Development Program – Accounting will hire a class of program participants in our Charlotte, NC headquarters. Participants benefit from an engaged leadership team and a large network of peers across Belk in the Retail Development Program. RDPs are required to move and live in the Charlotte, NC Metro area for their first 12 months of employment at Belk.
Accounting - Position Summary
The Retail Development Program – Accounting prepares you for a career in Accounting at Belk by providing exposure to multiple functional areas including General Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Financial Operations & Accounts Payable while interacting with leaders and other business areas across the company. This position will be responsible for monthly general ledger reconciliations, on-going reporting, journal entries, and ad-hoc projects. Through our hands-on learning approach, participants assume job responsibilities quickly while completing a robust learning curriculum. Associates will participate in training workshops, on-the-job project assignments, exposure to senior leaders and networking, and job shadowing other parts of the business. Participants are also matched with mentors to help acclimate to Belk and develop on the job.
On the Job Experiences Include:
Work in a fast paced, dynamic, test and learn environment
Interact with all levels of management to communicate or present topics vital to the business
Prepare weekly/monthly reporting and forecasts
Assist in the development of monthly general ledger account reconciliations
Develop reporting and analysis to identify issues and opportunities
Prepare journal entries and monthly accruals as needed
Review current processes and identify opportunities for process improvement
Assist with variance analysis (actuals vs. budget vs. forecast)
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; strong academic perforrmance in Finance or Accounting (preferred)
Must have graduated within 6 months of May 2025 and able to start full time June 2025
Prior internship in accounting/finance (preferred)
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (V-lookup, Macros), Word, PowerPoint & Outlook
Open to learning, able to adapt to changing circumstances and reprioritize tasks as needed
Ensure accurate and precise entry of financial information into database, extreme attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively with clients and partners at all levels of the organization
Committed to meeting goals and deadlines within a dynamic, fast-paced and results-oriented environment
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future
