Junior Accountant
Job Title: Junior Accountant Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Junior Accountant to join our finance team. You will be responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, performing balance sheet account reconciliations, preparing budgets and forecasts, and generating detailed financial reports. You will also review disbursement requests, monitor account balances, and assist in insurance policy renewals, among other tasks. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a large teaching hospital in Canada and develop transferable skills for the future. Responsibilities + Prepare and post journal entries, including adjustments related to Special Purpose Funds (SPF), recognition and amortization of prepayments, and fund transfers and accruals. + Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies. + Prepare budget and forecast for prepayments on various insurance policies for internal reporting purposes. + Prepare SPF monthly summary reports. + Provide detailed reports to SPF account owners and other stakeholders to analyze account transactions. + Review disbursement requests from SPF and validate compliance with hospital policies. + Monitor SPF accounts with deficit balances and follow up with account owners to rectify the balance. + Investigate unusual and disputed transactions in SPF. + Set up new SPF accounts as requested by account owners. + Facilitate updates to outdated or incomplete SPF information. + Liaise with insurance companies to obtain certificates of insurance as requested by various departments. + Assist in preparing detailed cost summaries for insurance claims submissions. + Assist in renewing various insurance policy applications. + Participate in process improvement projects and cross-training within the team. + Provide external audit requirements such as continuity schedules, related party confirmations, and supporting documents. + Provide backup and support for other finance roles as necessary. + Perform other tasks necessary to support the Finance Department. Essential Skills + Strong knowledge of accounting principles including debits, credits, journal entries, and reconciliations. + Experience with month-end activities, quarterly reporting, and forecasting. + Proficiency in dealing with accounting processing, investment funds, banking, and calculation from different sources. + Experience working with cash, treasury, prepaid expenses, and claims processing. + Familiarity with large ERP systems such as Oracle and SAP. + Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, H&V lookup, and basic formulas. + Excellent communication skills for interacting with key stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications + CPA designation preferred but not required. + Knowledge of SAP. + Experience in the healthcare or hospital industry.
