Junior Construction Inspector

Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Junior Construction Inspector to work on a north Texas client site supporting the oversight of a major highway construction project. The successful candidate will be proactive, a self-starter and team player with strong communication, time management and technical skills and is interested in taking their career to the next level.  This position works closely with the client to analyze and document compliance with construction and project requirements. 

 

Your Key Responsibilities

Field Work – 85%

Inspect and review projects during construction to monitor conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations during construction. Prepare daily reports of construction progress.
Manage deadlines and prioritize assignments. Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC oversight). Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures. Inspect installation of construction features, measure dimensions, and calculate quantities. Examine construction materials, verifying if specifications are met. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Be able to utilize a Stantec assigned tablet and computer to document inspections per the client’s needs.

Office Work – 10%

Assist with project coordination and construction oversight including deliverables, quantities, and document reviews. Support the successful delivery of projects for our clients, as the client Project Coordinator, on various sized projects to meet the project scope, schedule, and budget. Assist reviewing and analyzing construction plans for technical sufficiency and compliance. Adhere to our client’s documentation and project management processes with a strong level of ownership of project specific tasks and objectives. Utilize analytical skills to understand the necessity of reports and submittals to provide effective support to client; and maintain related databases. Review and analyze non-conformance reports to the project map in ARCGIS. Review and maintain safety reports generated by construction inspectors. 

Working with Project Teams – 5%

Be a proactive partner with the client. Support in the development of invoices and contract management. Support the preparation of Monthly Progress Reports (internal and external) and communication with clients. With guidance, assist with the preparation and distributions of high quality, accurate and timely documents.  Participate and coordinate project team activities and interact effectively with Clients, Contractors, Engineers, Project Managers, and other consultants. Perform project administration, coordination, development, and other support tasks. Your Capabilities and Credentials Emotional intelligence to work with a broad range of different types of people, including, technical experts, government officials, and other project partners. General computer skills including MS Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Teams. General understanding of a project lifecycle including design and construction processes and requirements. General understanding of concepts and design elements including, but not limited to, the construction of transportation systems or parts of systems, highways, streets, bridges, drainage structures, utilities, retaining walls and traffic control phasing. Basic skills in math and science. Excellent organizational skills, time management, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, and technical documentation. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments. Must be able to successfully work both collaboratively and independently. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Valid Texas Driver’s license with a good driving record.
  Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience with 0-4 years of related experience in construction or engineering industry. Typical office environment working with computers and field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
