Overview The Junior Estimator is responsible for reviewing technical documents, calculating earthwork quantities, determining material and subcontract requirements, and assisting estimators on potential site development projects. Responsibilities Read and evaluate project drawings and specifications to compile a detailed quantity take off for all bid items included in the project scope of work. Converting project drawings or civil engineer CAD files to 3D CAD models for earthwork calculations. Calculate different earthwork quantities (Mass Excavation, Over-excavation, cut/fill), structural excavation, structural backfill, and related excavation material. Update project takeoff per engineer issued addendums and clarifications. Area take-offs of the project (slopes, flats, etc.). Plotting and coloring detailed maps to distinguish between different pay quantities. Develop detailed volume reports and cut/fill maps for multiple project phases using earthwork software. Maintain take-off spreadsheets for organizing material description and quantities, back up of work, and summary of the project. Maintain a log of all bid plans, specifications, and revisions. Upload, manage, and distribute bid documents through a company file transfer protocol (FTP) website. Prepare and manage RFQ’s to vendors and sub-contractors. Review construction notes to quantify the scope of work and specs. Performs additional assignments at the Director of Preconstruction’s request. Qualifications Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required Associates degree in CAD or equivalent work experience in a construction environment is preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Ability to read and process documents such as contracts and subcontracts, statistical reports, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and fully understand project drawings, blueprints, specifications and RFQ's Ability to produce routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to plot and scan drawings and other documents on company printers or plotters. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficiency in computer programs such as Word, Excel, etc. Skill in managing multiple projects with precision and speed. Basic understanding of pricing terms. Ability to maintain job or task focus in pressured or time-sensitive situations. Detail oriented and self-motivated. Must be willing to work overtime if required. Proficient in AutoCAD computer-aided drafting software. Working knowledge in AGTEK earthwork software. Understanding of Geotechnical and soil reports.
