Job Description

We are seeking a junior analyst to join our fast-paced water microbiology department on Belfast. 

This is a fixed term contract until January 2026,  working 36.25 hours per week, on a rotating shift pattern which will include Monday to Friday and Tuesday to Saturday. - 06:00-14:00 / 10:00-18:00.  

During training the normal hours will be 08:00-16:00 or 09:00-17:00. Staff will also be required to cover bank holidays on a rota basis. Flexibility in working hours is required and overtime will be required to be worked at short notice during peak business demands during the week and at the weekend.

Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysisSample preparation in line with company protocolsMicrobiological analysis of water samples in line with company protocolsTraining and operation of relevant equipmentGeneral housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contaminationAccurate Data entry into laboratory databaseAccurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality systemEffective communication with all employeesReport any anomalous results or situations to Laboratory SupervisorHealth and Safety procedures are adhered to within the laboratory

QualificationsA level in a science related subject (preferably Biology)GCSE English and Mathematics and Science or equivalentComputer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel)Comfortable working in a busy environmentExcellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accuratelyAbility to work on own initiative as well as part of a team

Desirable:                          

Educated to HND level in a relevant scientific subjectLaboratory experienceExperience of culture of microorganismsKnowledge of laboratory accreditation systems (ideally ISO 17025)
