Junior Medical Scientific Liaison - Ophthalmology 

 

Main Purpose

The Junior Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) – Ophthalmology shall act as a scientific expert between Bayer and the retina medical community through the dissemination and education of scientific data and material. The Jr MSL Ophthalmology shall establish long-term scientific/strategic relationships with key, influential physicians/scientists/stakeholders and with related major medical associations and academic centers of excellence in the ophthalmology field. These relationships will ensure that Thought Leaders (TLs) and organizations have access to relevant scientific information and that pertinent information is shared with the medical community. The MSL shall use his/her experience and knowledge interacting with key external medical and pharmacy professionals through the process of education via one-on-one interaction; small group discussion and symposia lecture presentations including interactions associated with sponsored medical education programs and research protocols. The MSL should facilitate TL involvement in national, regional and local educational forums including advisory boards, symposia and Continuing Medical Education (CMEs). The Jr MSL Ophthalmology will also serve as an important partner to internal stakeholders within Bayer by communicating relevant information from TLs to key cross-functional partners.

 

 

Key tasks & responsibilities

Strategic contribution

Responsible for driving medical strategy by translating the local medical plan into implementable TL engagement strategies with cross-functional teams and identify synergies with the interests of Bayer and the general medical community

 

Data collection, analysis and interpretation

Responsible for reviewing and interpreting interaction analytics related to TL engagement and take appropriate actions;

Responsible and accountable for keeping abreast with latest scientific research on the ophthalmology area and competitors;

Responsible and accountable for developing strategic perspective and strong understanding of Bayer’s commercial, go to market strategies and healthcare landscape (includes healthcare systems, competition, healthcare technology, regulations, etc) so as to anticipate business and customer/stakeholder needs and shape plans accordingly

 

Managing external relationships

Responsible for fostering strong partnerships across MSL territories and play the role of ‘trusted advisor’ and ‘conductor’ to shape and synergize to reach win-win outcomes;

Responsible and Accountable for identifying the right TLs to engage and maintain a current list with up-to-date segmentations as per global definitions;

Responsible and Accountable for generating TL insights on unmet medical needs, document and communicate them to cross-functional teams to inform tactics and strategy;

Responsible and Accountable for implementing TL engagement strategies by building an understanding of Thought Leaders, fostering TL relationships and disseminating customer / patient-centric insights and data, whilst leveraging on various digital and physical channels to engage TLs with focused content

 

Internal support

Responsible for providing scientific contributions to development and implementation of Bayer-organised national, regional and local medical educational programs and gather competitive intelligence, build networks and build new material to engage TLs with;

Responsible for facilitating evidence generation aligned with medical and brand strategy; including facilitating investigator-initiated research

Responsible for supporting clinical trial team on subjects related to interventional clinical trials. Support with data collection, feasibility & initiation visits

 

Medical Queries

Responsible for documenting and process medical Information queries in alignment with MI handling procedures

 

 

Experiences / background

Has studied a scientific subject to a high standard (university degree in life sciences);

Work experience in the ophthalmology / retina field will be highly valued;

Preferable to have business acumen / knowledge and communication skills, gained through academic study or work in a pharma or equivalent organization

Track record of successfully dealing with internal and/or external stakeholders to develop coherent strategy/ approach or to gain support on key issues

Has experience learning and using digital technology on-the-fly to develop communications, or conduct analysis of medical data and generate insights
