About the Role… As a Junior Process Technologist, you will assist the Process Authority and Technical Services Team to identify opportunities of savings and help implement changes on the production floor to improve yields and minimize losses. You will assist the Process Technologist with overseeing and caring for the test kitchen and pilot plant by keeping track of the ingredient library and dry supply inventory, maintaining and running the equipment and running pilot plant trials. You will train with the Process Technologist in thermal food processing which includes but is not limited to heat penetration testing, temperature distribution testing, correctly running the Bertocchi, drum dryer, capper, micro-cut and retort. You will be responsible for Production Loss Prevention, Floor Coverage for R&D/Tech Services Trials, Data Logging, Competitive Analysis Testing, Shelf Life Testing, Dud Kick Out Evaluations and can be a back-up source for Control Tower Vacation Coverage. You will work collaboratively with the R&D/Tech Services/Operations/Maintenance teams on loss prevention, process/equipment research, product/ingredient research, co-man projects, internal and external innovation projects and product testing. Technical Services… The Technical Services Team is diverse in knowledge and experience and are responsible for ensuring that Beech-Nut’s products meet the highest standards for food safety and quality. This team takes pride in, and responsibility in partnering with our Strategic Sourcing, Operations and Quality Assurance Teams to ensure the ingredients sourced and processed have passed our testing standards and expectations. This is a hands-on, collaborative team that is energetic and passionate about making sure we continue to do what we do best - making high quality, safe, and nutritious foods for babies and toddlers! About the Work Environment… The position is located at the Amsterdam, New York LEED® certified production facility. This position will be required to work in an environment that requires hairnet, beard cover, safety glasses, hearing protection and lab coat part-time. Restrictions include wearing of jewelry, nail polish and acrylic nails. Other personal protection equipment may be required for certain tasks. What You’ll Do… + Identify opportunities of production loss and ways to improve. + Help implement changes to improve losses including but not limited to covering trials, training operators, creating reports, and collecting data. + Train with the Process Technologist to oversee the test kitchen and pilot plant by keeping track of ingredients and supply inventories, learn how to run and properly maintain the equipment in the pilot plant. + Train with the Process Technologist & Process Authority on FDA filing processes that include heat penetration and temperature distribution tests. + Train to cover Sterilization Technicians in the Control Tower for vacations or sick days. This may require coming on off shifts. + Track down comparative competitor products, test the products in-house and/or send the samples out to complete Competitive Analysis Testing. + Handle new product Shelf Life Testing monthly which includes regular product testing and sensory tastings. + Daily jar Dud Kick Out Evaluations for product positive release. Become an expert at evaluating glass jars for unacceptable defects. + Support R&D/Tech Services Production Trials for new ingredients or new products by spending time on the line, testing the product, reviewing the results and processes. This may require coming on off shifts. + Data Logging may be for formula updates, yield improvement, waste reduction, sustainability projects, etc and maybe via files or manual data entry. + Work collaboratively on a variety of projects including but not limited to loss prevention, process/equipment research, product/ingredient research, new/existing co-man projects, internal and external innovation projects and product testing with the R&D/Tech Services/Operations/Maintenance teams.
