Job DescriptionThe Junior Project Engineer coordinates all technical activities on assigned projects at the Swan Hills Treatment Centre (SHTC), primarily for the Maintenance and Operations departments. Coordination of technical activities includes planning, scheduling, and conducting assigned engineering work and monitoring work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and company standards. On all assigned projects, the incumbent is required to effectively communicate and coordinate between all disciplines and all other project participants and key stakeholders to achieve project KPIs. KPIs include completing projects safety, on schedule, on budget and with quality and integrity. The Project Engineer reports to the Techical Services Manager, who has ultimate responsibility for both the quality of SUEZ’s deliverable and effective execution of project assignments. Incumbent may be assigned plant engineering duties as required and is required to perform safety sensitive duties.
This position operates within a COR, ISO 17025 certified, and OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 conforming plant environment and is expected to comply with all regulatory requirements. The facility operates on a 24/7 basis.

Provides Engineering support for shutdown planning.Reviews maintenance work orders requiring Engineering input.Prepare 3D models in solid works and FEA ( Finite Element Analysis ) model of thermal and structural issues.Participates in the design and evaluation stage of the Process Hazard Assessment (PHA) process.Writes Approval for Expenditures (AFE)’s and Direct Reimbursable Expense (DRE)’s.Assists with and oversees capital projects including design and DRE submission preparation.Provides specifications for new equipment purchases.Prepares budgets and schedules for assigned projects. Manages costs on assigned projects.Issues Work Permits, does Safe Work Plans (SWP) and defines requisitions for projects.Works with contractors, vendors & consultants.Provides technical assistance on engineering tasks for all departments as required.Coaches/mentors Engineering students.Supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.Completes other duties as assigned.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Experience:
Engineering Degree, with preference for Mechanical / Chemical/ Electrical Discipline, is required. Minimum of 1 years’ related Engineering experience.Preference for 3 to 5 years’ related Engineering experience.Previous experience within an industrial plant environment is required.Previous project management experience is required.Strong mechanical aptitude is required..Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills to facilitate working effectively with wide range and number of people, including peers and manager, employees, and other departments, divisions, and management within all levels of the organization.Excellent negotiation, persuasion, and listening skills to facilitate successful resolution of employee and management concerns and requests.Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate and promote open discussions and understandingEffective time management, decision-making, and planning and organizing skills.Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within an environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.Intermediate to advanced level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, MS project, Excel, and Word).Experience in solid works modeling and FEA ( Finite Element Analysis) to resolve thermal and structural model.Ability to work outside of regular business hours as the facility is operational 24/7.Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.Ability to complete all conditions of employment including criminal record check, negative alcohol and drug test, current and clear Class 5 Drivers Liscence, pre-employment medical, and background check.Work Environment:
Valid Driver’s License: As this position requires the incumbent to drive company owned, leased or rented vehicles and/or equipment, the incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid Class Five (5) Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. An original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract for a 5-year driving record as confirmation of a valid Class 5 driver’s license is required prior to commencement of employment. Failure to have and maintain a valid Class Five (5) Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record may result in an offer of employment being rescinded or disciplinary action being taken up to and including termination of employmentChallenging conditions normally associated with job (e.g. physical hazards, rotating shifts, shop conditions, travel as an integral part of the duties performed, etc.). It is assumed that all reasonable and legal Occupational Health & Safety practices are in place and are adhered to. In addition, PPE is to be worn as per company standards and procedures. Regular trips into production plant, fields and/or laboratory; may be required to climb ladders, work at heights or in confined spaces, and be exposed to various industrial hazards within OH&S Guidelines such as but not limited to noise, fumes, chemicals and hazardours waste. May be exposed to PCBs, compressed/flammable gas, biological (medical response), mobile, moving and/or rotating equipment, slip/trip/fall and electrical hazards.May be exposed to hot and cold working environments.May be required to wear respirator and/or breathing apparatus while in the plant and/or laboratory.Despite the relatively low risk of exposure to potential waste contaminants, participation in the SHTC employee health monitoring program is required.Light to moderate lifting and carryingHours of Work:The Project Engineer is eligible to participate in a Compressed Work Week Schedule, thereby working four, ten-hour days each week; however incumbent is required to work hours necessary to achieve Department and Company/Client objectives. To achieve operational requirements and business-hour coverage at all times, incumbent may be required to occasionally change/adapt their hours.Options within the Compressed Work Week Guidelines are Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday and 6:00 am to 4:30 pm or 7:00 am to 5:30 pm with a 30-minute planned lunch break.
