The Role:

As a Junior Sous Chef - Pastry at Hyatt Centric Melbourne, you will be an essential part of the culinary team, responsible for the production of pastry items throughout the hotel. You will have the freedom to create and express yourself while producing desserts for the main restaurant, events, and café. This is primarily a production-focused role, but you will also participate in event service and catering when required by the Chef De Cuisine.

The responsibilities are not limited to:

Responsible for creating high-quality pastries for the hotel, including offerings for the restaurant, events, and breakfast services.Develop seasonal À la carte, breakfast, and event menus aligned with the hotel’s philosophy.Join the team for events and assist with plating and service as required.Ensure the cleanliness and organization of your designated working area and kitchen section.Foster positive relationships with both back-of-house and front-of-house teams.Monitor and maintain the quality and quantity of all dishes to be served.

2 years’ experience working in a fast-paced high end restaurant or hotel specializing in pastry.Certificate IV Commercial Cookery or higherAn ability to think outside the box to create new and innovative desserts.Precision in measurements, decoration, and presentation.Being able to manage multiple tasks, especially during busy service periods.Ability to manage and mentor a team, ensuring smooth operation in the pastry section.Ability to work on a flexible 24/7 roster.Well-developed computer skills particularly in the use of MS Office.A collaborative attitude, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
