Health Care Interpreter (Brown Square)

Jordan Health is seeking a Health Care Interpreter (Brown Square Jordan seeks to minimize barriers to health care for all patients. Jordan employs Health Care Interpreters to assist patients for whom language is a significant barrier and utilizes In Demand Interpreting services for those languages not represented by our employed interpreter staff. The Health Care Interpreter serves as a liaison and cultural broker between health center staff and patients. The interpreter is responsible for facilitation of access to health care services for all patients best served by a language other than English.

The ideal candidate should have a

· High School Diploma or equivalent is required

· One year of directly related experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred

· Fluent language proficiency in English and language specific to clinic needs

· Knowledge of medical terminology in both languages is preferred

· Experience working in a position requiring customer interaction

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· Computer skills highly desirable

· Strong customer service and communication skills

· Proficiency in English and native (first) language

· Create a culturally competent atmosphere of patient team care respectful of a patient’s holistic needs (cultural, physical, psychosocial, etc.)

· Interpret all verbal communication between patient and health care staff precisely and concisely.

· Aid in improving patient customer service experience through communication with patients and families.

· Collaborate with internal and external team members to effectively coordinate care services for Jordan Health patients.

· Schedule, follow up, and confirm patient appointments.

· Translation of organization documents when needed.

· Answering and returning patients phone calls in a timely manner.

· Exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in all patient/staff interactions

· Welcoming and greeting each patient and visitor in a manner that is assuring

· Maintaining a welcoming environment within the clinical areas, ensuring that work space areas are neat and organized.

· Practicing confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with Jordan Health policies and HIPPAA requirements

· Contributing to team effort by accomplishing assigned tasks with timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency.

· Attending and participating all staff and team meetings, completing in-services and annual trainings.

· Directing and/or accompanying patients to correct department, staff member or services as appropriate

· Helps facilitate communication among all members of the health care team.

· Individually owns and takes responsibility for his/her role on the team.

· Effectively uses technology and office resource tools to accomplish job

· Maintains regular attendance with few absences in order to be present to maintain effective relationships and keep up with position responsibilities.

· Performs all related duties as required.

· Attend and pass the Medical Interpreting course

COMPLIANCE: This position requires compliance with Jordan Health's Compliance Program, compliance Code of Conduct, and its written policies, procedures, and protocols (collectively, the "Written Standards"). Such compliance will be an essential element considered as part of the regular performance evaluation of the Compliance Database Librarian.
