Job Description

I. Position Summary:

 

Administer Physical Therapy and treatment under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.

 

II. Position Relationships:

 

A. Responsible to: Director of PM&R and Physical Therapist

 

B. Workers Supervised: None

 

C. Interrelationships: Patients and their families, physicians and

nurses, departmental and hospital personnel.

 

III. Responsibilities and Authorities:

 

A. Overall:

 

Responsible for treating patients using Physical Therapy procedures and techniques within recognized standards, under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.

 

B. Work Performed:

 

1. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.

 

2. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

 

3. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE Advantage” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

 

4. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

 

5. Administers Physical Therapy treatment to patients.

 

6. Completes medical documentation in an accurate and timely manner, consistent with rules and regulations.

 

7. Supervises and delegates appropriately to Therapy Aides.

 

8. Attends hospital meetings and committee work as assigned.

 

9. Participates in rotating to necessary areas, setting will include but not limited to outpatient, wound care, rehab, acute care, and sports medicine, to provide treatment coverage to patients where needed.

 

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:

 

A. Implements appropriate care to the following age groups: (circle all that apply)

3. Adolescent 6. Sports Medicine

 

B. Demonstrates independence in daily duties and does so in a timely manner.

 

C. Demonstrates proficiency in Physical Therapy techniques, and is responsible for self-growth and learning.

 

D. Demonstrates ability to plan and coordinate treatment area for self and those supervised.

 

E. Demonstrates good supervisory skills with Aides.

 

F. Role model – reflects professional attitude and work ethics through attendance, appearance, and behavior.

 

G. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively; follows appropriate channels of communication.

 

V. Qualifications:

 

A. Education:

 

Currently licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the State of Texas. Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.

 

C. Job Knowledge:

 

Knowledge of procedures and treatments in Physical Therapy with an emphasis on total patient care. Must have understanding of basic supervision.

 

VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

 

A. Patient lifting and transferring.

 

B. Lifting and pushing of heavy and light equipment.

 

C. Constant standing and walking.
