Lab Assistant

Responsibilities

In keeping with the Dignity Health core values a laboratory assistant performs routine automated testing in multiple areas of the clinical laboratory in a timely manner under direct supervision of licensed personnel. Has all quality control for testing performed reviewed by licensed personnel. Performs routine maintenance and repair on instruments utilized as directed. Other duties associated with clinical lab functions are clerical in nature including but not limited to such acts as patient registration telephone communication filing sorting distribution typing data entry and frequent use of laboratory computer system(s) to process specimens. Verifies eligibility benefits authorization requirements PCP approval and billing requirements as appropriate. May work out of various patient service centers. Use of personal vehicles may be required.

This position is represented by SEIU Local UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.


Qualifications
Six (6) months of experience as a laboratory assistant Six (6) months of experience in phlebotomy experience in acute care facilityCurrent California Phlebotomy certification (CT PHLEBOT)Medical Laboratory Technician certification can be accepted in lieu ofCurrent AHA CPR certification (CT CPRBLS)

Preferred Requirements:

One (1) year of experience as a laboratory assistant in an acute care facility

Special Skills:

Excellent communication skills. Ability to be an effective team member. Basic knowledge of testing procedures and medical terminology. Phlebotomy competency will be assessed and documented by Laboratory director or designee on hire for a Lab Assistant that maintains a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist certification.
