Job Title: Lab AssistantJob Description Prepares laboratory specimens for designated departments or locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations, including staging of specimens, centrifuging, separating serum, and creating blood smears. May perform data entry of test requisition information. Aliquots samples for departments, prepares excess specimen samples for storage, and resolves and documents problem specimens. Responsibilities + Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis and testing. + Unpack and route specimens from branches or ports to various staging areas. + Stage specimens, centrifuge, separate serum, and create blood smears. + Perform data entry of test requisition information. + Aliquot samples for various departments. + Prepare excess specimen samples for storage. + Resolve and document problem specimens. Essential Skills + Experience in handling laboratory specimens. + Proficiency in data entry and maintaining logs/records. + Strong organizational skills. + Good time management skills. + Ability to use computerized databases. + Effective written and verbal communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Ability to answer telephones and research information. + Proficiency with numbers. + Capability to train employees. Work Environment This position is within a reference laboratory. The work hours are from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm with rotating weekends. The company provides great benefits, bonuses, and room for growth.
