Job Title: Lab Assistant

Job Description

Prepares laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as staging of specimens, centrifuge, separate serum, and blood smears. May perform data entry of test requisition information. Aliquots samples for departments. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and documents problem specimens.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to analysis and testing.Unpack specimens from branches or ports and route specimens by type to various staging areas.Prepare all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations.Perform staging of specimens, centrifugation, serum separation, and blood smears.Perform data entry of test requisition information.Aliquot samples for departments.Prepare excess specimen samples for storage and resolve and document problem specimens.Essential SkillsProficiency in specimen handling and laboratory procedures.Experience in data entry and test requisition information.Ability to manage and process 50-100 specimens a day (urine/blood, etc.).Additional Skills & QualificationsStrong administrative skills including answering telephones, maintaining logs/records, organizational skills, proficiency with numbers, researching information, time management, training employees, using computerized databases, and effective written and verbal communication.Work Environment

Mon-Fri rotating weekends (Sat & Sun) 3rd Shifts (10pm-6:30am).


Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
