JOB REQUIREMENTS Education High school graduate or equivalent with two years of phlebotomy or lab experience. More technical aspects require sufficient combination of education and experience to perform. Experience Minimal of (1) year experience in a medical laboratory desirable. Demonstrated proficient use of computer. Written and verbal communications, telephone, and customer service skills required. Requires on the job training under direct supervision of other qualified lab personnel. Orientation and training is age specific. Must be 21 years old and driving record must not reflect any moving violations or accidents. Physical Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to biological and medical hazards. Operates various lab analyzers, centrifuges, refrigerators and freezers, personal computers, printers, telephones, automobiles. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional sitting and bending. Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. This is a safety sensitive position. Please see the St. Bernards Substance Abuse Policy for further information. JOB SUMMARY Performs capillary collections and venipunctures, with routine care of the puncture site. Able to register patients in computer system as needed. Process and reject all specimen types depending on specimen integrity. Blood, urine, stool samples, cultures, and all other specimens will be received into the lab information system, centrifuged, separated, packaged, or distributed to the main hospital lab for testing. May place physician orders into the lab computer system.
