Lab Director Location: San Antonio, TX Job Description: The Lab Director will: + Lead and oversee all laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality services in Infectious Disease and Donor Acceptability Testing, including Pre-analytical, Serological, Nucleic Acid, and Ancillary testing. + Ensure strict adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. + Direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate all technical activities. + Implement strategic initiatives and develop new functional or cross-functional business processes to support the department’s objectives. + Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to establish requirements and identify areas for improvement in operations. + Manage operating budgets, people processes, and technologies to drive operational improvements. + Provide expert oversight on blood and plasma testing methodologies. + Supervise the technical performance of laboratory staff to ensure high-quality blood products and client testing. + Ensure full regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FDA, CLIA, GMP, CAP, AABB, ISO, and EU standards. + Oversee quality control procedures, maintain records, and direct the development of new protocols to ensure the highest standards of compliance and quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications: + Bachelor of Science in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry. Master’s degree preferred. + 7 years of lab experience (NAT testing, VMT testing, STD testing). + 5 years of extensive management experience in laboratory operations with a minimum of two years supervising high-complexity testing. + Experience with HCT/P (Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products), Whole Blood, OPO (Organ Procurement Organization). + Experience working in a regulated environment (FDA, CAP, CLIA). + MLS/CLS/MT certification preferred. Work Environment: + Main production laboratory with a team size of 3 managers and approximately 30 employees (techs, processors, leads, trainers). + Schedules: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with required off-hours work based on business needs. + Culture: Medical lab with biology-based backgrounds, sterile and clean environment.
