Job Overview
 

The Lab Manager provides administrative and research support for the Principal Investigator (PI) and the lab, housed in the GUMC Neuroscience Department.

Duties include but are not limited to:

IRB protocols: creating, updating, managing, modifying them as needed, and maintaining adherence to theme - e.g., correct use of consent forms, data security measuresLab equipment: purchasing and management, including technology needs - e.g., computers, tablets, monitors…) and other supplies - e.g., electrodes, coffee, office-related)Access: managing passwords and login information for all equipment and lab accountsPayments: managing human subject payments - e.g., requesting/managing Amazon gift cards, and keeping related records with the bursarData Collection: supporting with software/recruitment databases/neuroimaging scheduling and accounts; training lab members in the use of SONA, Qualtrics, and other GU-approved platforms; and setting up accounts for equipment useSupport development: managing the creation of research positions - e.g., postdocs, advertisement, and their recruitment - e.g., contracts, visasOnboarding: Supporting new lab researchers with required tasks (CITI training, IRB modifications, etc.), adding them to lab communication channels - e.g., Slack, mailing lists; and getting emergency contact informationLab communications management: internal - e.g., lab meetings, events, deadlines, important dates, upcoming meetings and external - e.g., website, social media, communications with visitors, invited speakersAdministration: Supporting the PI in other administrative tasks - e.g., grant and manuscript preparation, contact and follow-up with GUMC and GU administration, as deemed necessaryResearch support: Assisting the P.I. and other lab members in their research as deemed necessary by the PI - e.g., data collection, preprocessing, and analysis; and preparing experimental protocols, coding tasksLiterature Reviews: performing systematic literature reviews on relevant topics as determined by the PIGuidance: writing tutorials and protocols for equipment useProfessional development: building the Lab’s network - e.g., PR, research, sponsorship - and creating opportunities for growth

The Lab Manager has the opportunity to more directly participate in research and to develop their own research interests if possible, as determined by the PI.


Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
 

Reporting directly to the PI, the Lab Manager oversees the administrative management of the lab and provides support for the research projects of post-/pre-doctoral and Master’s trainees in the lab.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
 

Bachelor of Science or equivalent - e.g., Linguistics, EngineeringAt least 2 years of research experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in research lab administrationIntermediate level coding skills - e.g., Python, MATLAB - and familiarity with other relevant software - e.g., Praat
