Lab Research Coordinator - Department of Neuroscience - Georgetown University Medical Center

The overarching goal of Georgetown’s Department of Neuroscience is to improve brain health through discovery research. We focus on brain disorders that become increasingly worse as people age, like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, response to infections, depression, seizures, and recovery from a head injury. These disorders often affect memory, the ability to communicate, movement, and general mental well-being. We seek to understand what underlies these disorders to discover early detection methods and new therapies to improve health.

Job Overview

The Lab Research Coordinator, in an essential role in the overall outcome of a currently funded R01 grant, completes several experiments propose in the grant that otherwise will not be concluded on time. Duties include but are not limited to:

Assisting with the grant’s planned experiments, they recruit, contact, screen, test, and follow up with blind and sighted participantsAssist in behavioral data collection from the blind cohort, and with initial quality assurance of fMRI and behavioral dataCoordinate with the GU Institutional Review BoardManage participant reimbursementsSupport the daily operation of the laboratory 

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to Dr. Striem-Amit, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Principal Investigator, and to Dr. Maria Czarnecka, Postdoctoral Research Fellow joining the lab, the Lab Research Coordinator assists a graduate student to speed-up completion of the thesis research.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in science or psychologyExperience in a previous laboratoryMinimal computer coding capacities
