**Job Summary**
Performs technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.
**Responsibilities**
* Confer with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommend modifications as needed
* Independently maintain basic lab functions
* Perform specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment under the direction of senior laboratory personnel
* Conduct literature reviews to obtain information to be utilized in research
* Make statistical calculations, analyze data, and prepare reports summarizing results
* May perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis
* Order supplies and experimental materials needed to conduct research
* Maintain lab safety documentation and training logs

**Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:**
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils ( _there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids_ ), hazards ( _includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals_ ).
Seldom: Exposure to animals.
**Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required**
Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
**Minimum Qualifications**
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency; two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.

**Preferences**
* Prior experience and familiarity in cell culture and/or molecular biology techniques preferred
* Prior experience in mouse or zebrafish research preferred
* Skilled in the use of basic laboratory equipment (pipettes, scales, microscopes, etc.)
* Familiarity with scientific and medical terminology, materials and substances, and laboratory techniques and equipment
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Proficiency in standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Familiarity with statistical processes a plus
OSHA , IRB , and IACUC training and certification or the willingness to complete the certification will be required
